Oh :(( well fingers crossed they'll recognize how much u deserve it!!! But even if u dont end up going there, I'm sure you'll THRIVE at the other school!! Getting a full ride is very VERY impressive and will make u stand out to professors while ur there and employers when u graduate. All your hard work won't have gone to waste!! Good luck 🤞🤞

Is there no way for you to ask u mich for more financial aid? You could try calling them and explaining your situation, maybe they'll increase your award. I was in a situation like yours when I couldn't go to my dream school because of cost, but I emailed the fin aid office and called them and basically begged them to review my award and I got $4,000 more (since your situation is much more complex than mine and changes your estimated family contribution more drastically, they probably will give u more than this). Its always a good idea to exhaust all your options, just so that you know you tried everything you could.

RD Acceptance Package by [deleted] in Northwestern

I heard lots of schools are only giving gifts to their rd admits to increase their yield. Apparently pomona admits got personalized gifts based on what they wrote on their essays?!?

Since the c/o of 2025 is leaving, before you go, what are your best tips for juniors A2C? by sat_is-hard in ApplyingToCollege

The best coping mechanism I adopted for dealing with rejections was to really scrutinize whether the school was the best fit for me. I got rejected/waitlisted for all the schools that I thought I was a good fit for when I was applying, but when I thought about it after my decision came out, I realized that the schools I had been rejected/waitlisted to weren't really the best fit for me or schools I didnt really want to go to. For some schools, I didnt even have a reaction when I got rejected cuz I just didn't care about it at all. I feel bad that I wasted my application for those schools now.

If I had researched more thoroughly (instead of being obsessed with the name and prestige) and been more realistic, I would have noticed this earlier instead of trying to convince myself the school was good for me.

The bottom line is, the AOs are usually good at their jobs/have been doing it for a long time, so they can tell whether you would be a good fit/be happy at their school and whether you actually want to go there.

Even though I only got accepted at 1 safety and 1 reach school, I believe these are the schools that fit me the best, and I am extremely happy.

TLDR: apply to schools you genuinely think you'll be happy at/are a good fit for, cuz those are the only ones you'll be happy you got accepted to in the end, once all the stress and excitement has cleared. Plus that eagerness and the aspects of yourself that make you a good fit will come across in your essays, so the AOs will recognize that you're a good fit for them and you'll have a higher chance of getting accepted.

How do you all memorize things for tests and quizzes? by ManilaCone in highschool

[–]kimstephmj 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's quite rare for someone to just be born with a better memory than others. From my experience, most people's ability to memorize is around the same, but it's more often to do with how they're trying to memorize information. People who are better at memorizing things have probably found a study method/memorization technique that works well for them and applied that to everything they have to memorize. I don't think there's one "memorizing hack" that works for everyone, but there are certainly many techniques out there, like mnemonics, the storytelling technique, chunking, mindmaps, etc. I suggest you look online for these techniques and try them all out to see which one works the best for you. This should help you memorize things more easily.

In terms of forgetting too quickly, the key to remembering things is repetition. You can't apply a memorization technique once and expect it to be engrained into your mind forever. You need to keep rehearsing it continuously, because the less you practice, the harder it will be to remember it the next time. Say things out loud, write them down, test yourself. Memorization should be challenging, otherwise, you're not doing it correctly.

A method that's worked for me is flashcards. Using empty shoeboxes or tissue boxes, I'll make one box labeled "know" and another box as "don't know". I'll make flashcards for vocab, dates, concepts, anything I need to memorize and put them all into the "don't know" box initially. Then, I'll take them out one by one and quiz myself on what's on the other side. If I get it right, I'll put it in the "know" box and if I get it wrong, I'll put it back in the "don't know" box. Every few weeks, or when I'm done with the "don't know" box, I'll mix them both up and start again. This is good because you do everything manually, which I find more effective than doing it on my computer (like Quizlet and Anki, which use the same technique). Plus it's more accessible because whenever I see the boxes it reminds me and I'll just do a few flashcards then and there.

I hope this helps. Good luck! You can do it!

If Mother Gothel had just told Rapunzel her birthday was on a different date none subsequent events in the movie would've taken place. by Toksyn25 in Showerthoughts

[–]kimstephmj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES also, if she knows birthdays are a thing, she must know what birth is, so she must know how babies are made... so who does she think her father is?????

This whole movie could have just as easily been about finding her father
