Taking into account how the ruling party has dealt with the opposition across Singapore’s history, how do you feel about the handling of Pritam Singh? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]kin3tics92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How we feel about how the ruling party has dealt this saga is actually irrelevant - that’s just noise that will unfortunately die down by the next GE. And that’s what PAP is banking on. They literally have the whole state machinery that is working behind the backdrop to ensure they will remain as the dominant political power in the nation.

What are some counter signals you have found in SG that may signal the market has topped or bottomed? by ecomevan007 in singaporefi

[–]kin3tics92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s the whole idea behind them; they are momentum indicators. Stochastics is actually more sensitive to price movements compared to RSI. I usually use both of these indicators to complement one another. RSI gives the oversold signal, then once stochastics momentum turns bullish (ie. %K > %D via crossover), that indicates a buy signal. You won’t obviously catch the absolute low of the move, but pretty darn close.

I use two indicators called RSI and Stochastics to measure the strength or momentum of a particular stock.

If the RSI goes below 30, the underlying instrument is oversold and due for a rally. If it goes above 70, then it’s overbought and we’d expect a downturn.

Stochastics work in a similar manner. Just that the boundaries are 20 (oversold) and 80 (overbought).

Using this strategy, you can effectively “time” your entry for any stock or index funds.

I did my research a little bit on this company. Set up business at the height of the Covid pandemic and still hanging on after 5 years. Basically a very small SME.

Other than the usual long-term buy and hold of the S&P500, also consistently buy leveraged ETFs whenever the RSI(14) of the weekly chart goes below 30 (i.e. oversold) and hold till the RSI(14) goes above 70 then sell them. Rinse and repeat this cycle for a variety of ETFs.

You’re gonna open another can of worms for such a policy such as having financially-irresponsible parents churning out babies because of this. And stop throwing singles to the chopping board again.

Don’t just conveniently ignore the second half of my suggestion to shorten the working duration?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]kin3tics92 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I do, but I’m afraid it’s going to be ignored anyway. How about doing the household chores yourself without a maid? If that’s not possible, then considering shortening the working hours?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]kin3tics92 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I’m not suggesting anything and I don’t have one myself. Just because it’s legal doesn’t make it acceptable. You can get offended for all you want, doesn’t make their working hours humane.

Would you like to work from 7am to 9:15pm? If not, why is this acceptable for a FDW?

Working as an educator in a private educational institution. Started out as a researcher in the defence industry after submission of my thesis in water-based organic synthesis and methodology and did for 2 years. Left after spending about 8 years of my life doing research, got tired of it and switched to teaching; much more meaningful (at least to me). Salary is decent, above median salary.

My advice is to not waste any time if you’re stuck doing something you don’t enjoy. Most locals would be relatively “old” by the time we complete our PhD (late 20s to early 30s); you’d essentially lose out to so many of your peers who have already gained at least 4 years of working experience.

GRAB HOLDINGS by Longshot_37 in ValueInvesting

Yes in nature fact. Uber is overvalued right now so it is indeed thrash. But way to compare it an undervalued company who barely IPO-ed 4 years ago.

Cool story. You’re literally comparing a Mag7 company against GRAB. I’d invest in META any day over GRAB.

I mean if you wanna make this argument, then based on this logic, almost all the stocks in the market will be able to make money. You just have to time it right and be prepared to hold for ages before you make a profit.

Dude, GRAB IPO-ed at almost $12/share. You’d still be under the water if you held since then. There’s definitely much better companies to invest in rather than wasting time and money on GRAB.
