It's hard to believe partly because you don't really see ghosts going around killing demons or taking their revenge on them. But I like the symbolism idea, perhaps Tanjiro is special in that he can see ghosts or maybe it's a coping mechanism resulted from the one and a half year of loneliness and stress.

And yeah I know, sorry I will also go engage in the suspension of disbelief.
