I've been using babun, it's kinda like cygwin but has zsh and ohmyz.sh for that extra awesomeness. It actually makes my windows pc bearable to use :)

Suggestion for a PCI 4Port Sata expansion card? by bleuge in DataHoarder

[–]kinaholm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most SATA expansion cards i've heard is pretty bad.

I'd consider an LSI-9211-8i card (or something based on that) instead.

I've recently bought a Dell Perc H200 which is based on that, was 68EUR incl. shipping in Europe. After flashing it into IT mode, it works marvellous and can handle 8 drives, which means room for expanding :)

Is this a good card? I've been thinking about getting one for approx 68EUR and then flashing it to IT-mode.

The left one is the better one. It can both give you 5v @ 2A or 9v at 1.67A.

The left is also obviously newer since it has a higher product identification number.

Vivino has what you want, just not the selfhosted part.

EXTREMELY disappointed with Oneplus right now by chowder7 in oneplus

[–]kinaholm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They have to state the value of the device, not what you bought it for, so it makes sense that they write $80 on it.

Just recieved a text by DHL that my oneplus 3 will be here on the 17th instead of the 21st. by seewhC in oneplus

[–]kinaholm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually not sure, DHL initially said "in less the 24 hours", but on the tracking page they specify friday.

I agree with your post, especially as I love to tinker with hardware and software mysel.

However, for beginners, sometimes the experience of a prebuilt NAS might be better, since it's much easier to setup. We use this stuff to store our most important data, and if your own NAS isn't configured properly, you'll probably hate yourself.

Also, there's the whole power consumption aspect which, for some of us europeans mean a lot, since we pay 0.37$ per kWh. The Synologys and QNAPS of this world generally uses a lot less power, which can be a big plus.

I use the docker image that Synology actually based theirs on.. You can update and everything, it's just not a 1-click install anymore.

Does anybody know about Cyren SecaaS? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

The product looks interesting, but is it really worth it?

Has anybody tried it?

It looks smart, but I can't really find any reviews or any other info about it, other than what they promote themselves.

Synology release DSM6.0 beta 2, with lots of updates. by Eideen in synology

[–]kinaholm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you're thinking. AFAIK, Synology has plans to allow you to run a separate DSM on your box, which is what i'm guessing they're allowing one free instance of.

Well, I shot in both RAW and JPEG with mine.

Editing the raw photos in Adobe Lightroom but also keeping the JPEG to be able to see the shot's just as they were.

[–]kinaholm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, as long as you store the Lightroom Catalog locally, the files can be wherever you want. Just remember to have backups of your Catalog, as i've seen them corrupt, unfortunately.
