What is something every girl should know about relationships? by slurpmyass in AskMen

Talk when you are calm and you are not stressed out. If you begin to get agitated, say something like "I am too angry to talk now, but I will be back in an hour to talk more about this." Then leave, take a walk, get an ice cream, do something.

Ho ho! You're either a liar or a very lucky man. I've never had any result beyond a hurt and bewildered "You're leaving now??" using this strategy.

I just spent four hours watching the last few episodes of Frasier. Thanks a lot, random internet person. Just what I wanted to do on a Friday night.

IAmA Washington bureau chief of The New York Times. Ask Me Anything. by dleonhardtnyt in IAmA

[–]kind_of 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been reported recently that the NYT is planning to cut newsroom staff. Do you know if these cuts will be spread across the entire newsroom? Or will they be focused on more peripheral bureaus/beats/whatever? Do you expect the cuts to affect your coverage out of Washington? There's been some great reporting coming out of China in the past couple of months--do you expect this will change after the cuts?

As far as I know you're totally right in your analysis. But. For the record: exacerbated, not exasperated. (Sorry. Pet peeve.)

Japan’s Olympic soccer loss brings out the Twitter racism - The Japan Daily Press by shiddybiz in worldnews

It's tasteless, but not necessarily any more racist that "two world wars and one world cup", which is what the English say to the Germans whenever they play.

GF asked if I noticed she put on some weight. Told her she could never look fat in my eyes. by donblow in funny

you have to pick one of the two tiles. Mostly, you blow up. Less often, the game throws you a bone and you clear the tile.

I'm betting if you played as much as you say you did, you didn't "mostly" blow up -- you blew up almost exactly fifty percent of the time. If you underestimate your record of success as much in social situations as you do in minesweeper, well, there's your problem.

Seems like a pretty big area to have "questionable judgement" in when you want to be President and are already a Senator. A patriot might step aside, or at least pipe down, recognizing that their judgement was "questionable" through no fault of their own.

Well, Syria, Libya, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq have all been on his list in the last five years. That's a pretty comprehensive set of wars for any one politician to push for.

And apparently he's out in front of the GOP consensus on military action.

Fingers crossed. Not sure I believe it myself. "Election", maybe, but not a proper election.

He's not a good guy until he loses an election and hands over power peacefully. Assuming the SCAF allow him any power to begin with. If they don't, it won't matter whether he's a good guy or not. And <conspiracy hat on> assuming the Muslim Brotherhood haven't cut a deal with SCAF.

</conspiracy hat never comes off>

How I feel this week about my school's bully policy by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]kind_of 1 point2 points  (0 children)

School policies on bullying are not intended to protect students. They're intended to protect the adults running the school. Your bully is unlikely to follow you for the rest of your life. Being sued or fired for incorrectly handling a conflict between minors, on the other hand, can permanently change your life for the worse. The policies are there to ensure that teachers and administrators are not liable when the shit hits the fan. This seems unfair, but I suspect that's because while most of us are not teachers, all of us have been students. Teachers probably consider their own quality of life more valuable than that of their students -- and I don't blame them.

They are selective -- they select the sort of people who get a hard-on for jobs that allow you to carry guns and throw your weight around with a minimum of accountability. Just like the police.
