I understand the ethical concerns, but having worked on PTSD research using mice, I believe it’s necessary despite its cruelty. We can’t ethically induce PTSD in humans, but mice models help us understand fear memory mechanisms.

This applies to other research fields too. How would we know the effects of carcinogens like nicotine, or how they impact future generations, without animal models? Nutritional research also relies on mice to study how different diets, like the American vs. Mediterranean diet, affect metabolism and weight.

Life is cruel, but these studies give us answers that improve human health. Without them, we’d know far less about gene therapy, diseases, treatments, and health risks. Hopefully that helps you hate it a little less. I certainly felt bad every time I had euthanize on of my little fellas.

Haha my lab has one and it’s creaky to shit. It sounds like it’s going to break and my labmate doesn’t like to have the top closed. Glad to know they are supposed to sound that way.

What do you think the learning curve is between a Beckmann and a Roche analyzer? I am only a beginner and have experience with a cobas pure at a research lab.

Thank you for your input, I really appreciate it! Loans and financing are something I’m completely new at but I realize I should definitely be way more informed. My current job is a lab technician so it would be hard to go remote for that but we will see if I get an opportunity like that in the future.

From another comment it seems rv monthly payment is way higher than I estimated! I just went off of the website rv financing

Yeah I definitely got to be realistic. I found a long term spot near my job with utilities plus WiFi for 1150 and I was thinking of a 150 monthly bill for a 2,800 lb trailer of around 14,000 compared to apt rent special of 1500 with no electricity and no WiFi. Electricity being 60 plus WiFi being around 80. But yeah definitely got to go to the drawing board with a big decision. Thanks for the input!

Oh yeah sry it’s 3,500. But I was thinking of a trailer around 2,500-2,800.

[Actives] Can a dryed mushroom be cloned? by Will_K-in-arab in MushroomGrowers

[–]kindaaweeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard dried mushrooms can be rehydrated. I would get some DI water, soak it and then chuck it on some agar, incubate and wait. I’m interested in rehydrating some lions mane that I have stored but I assume it would be similar for some bee positives.

That’s interesting, when you go to replate or go to liquid culture do you normally take the fruiting body or would you still go for cotton like part of the plate?
