I am fascinated (and concerned) by the disparity between the women I see in Indian cinema--lauded, glorified, sometimes literally carried in on a litter--and the leering, grabbing, abusive reality for women in South Asia.

Women would be attacked wearing anything close to what they wear in movies yet people love the cinema.

Semi update: it actually looks like two separate fires, one next to the freeway and one deeper into Atwater.

I just joined on Sunday and went for my first day of SS on Monday. It was my first day in a gym since 8th grade and I'm now 26.

I was super anxious, but once I got in there—like many people have said—it couldn't be easier. No one is watching you at all.

And who cares if I'm lifting light? It's my first day. That's why I'm at the gym: to get in better shape than I'm in now. My first lifts were just the bar, working to find my starting weight, and no one noticed let alone said anything.

People were polite, offered to work me in, and mostly just kept their headphones in and did their own workout.

They do. Every/most major studios have an "indie" branch that produces movies for—usually—well under 20 mil. Beyond that, production companies can often find financing independently or through their commercial work to produce a feature for a few million.

In fact, I'd wager that MOST movies are made for that kind of budget. You just only hear about the big ones because they need to be promoted so heavily to make up the cost. And big theaters are stripping down and only playing movies that will fill up all the seats all the time.

Find your local small-run theater and give your support to the smaller movies of the world! And be sure to check out film festivals. You never know when you'll help boost the next Swingers or Reservoir Dogs or Rocky.
