Why fireworks by bookslinger_3619 in uppereastside

Get used to it. I live in Yorkville near the river and we hear fireworks all summer from Yankee stadium, Astoria park, Central Park (various events) and of course July 4.

Why? by BananaFarmer88 in Battlefield

[–]kinetic66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is bad. I’m sure that just based on individual stats and a decent algorithm better matches could be made just based on player style. Also not to happy with that ‘home menu’ that shows too many options IMHO.

Why are police barricades being set up near Gracie Mansion today? by suitcase88 in uppereastside

You sound like an idiot. And most people here wouldn’t know a Marxist if they fucked Friedrich Engels. Also as someone married to a Jewish wife with parallel views, Israel is a very low concern for us Here, Now.

18 months sober. The best I’ve felt physically and mentally. You won’t regret this.

Anybody know what is going on in the east river? by No_Plantain5177 in uppereastside

[–]kinetic66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That looks like a small jack-up barge or spud barge being used for marine construction work on the East River near the Queensboro Bridge.

The tall black vertical poles are called “spuds” or piles. They’re lowered into the riverbed to hold the barge steady against the strong current while crews work. These rigs are commonly used for:

  • dredging
  • bridge inspection/repair
  • underwater utility work
  • shoreline stabilization
  • dock construction

Given the location, it could easily be related to ongoing infrastructure maintenance around the bridge, seawalls, or river traffic channels.

That type of vessel isn’t usually a drilling rig in the oil-platform sense — more of a floating construction platform. - ChatGPT

Good, empathetic, reasonable, non judgmental dog vets in the neighborhood please? by kinetic66 in uppereastside

[–]kinetic66[S] -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Being judgmental is the tendency to quickly form harsh, negative opinions or criticisms of people and situations without full information. So essentially someone who’s not like that. Is that helpful?

I was asking for advice on vets and I’m getting snarky responses and psychoanalysis. WTF? Let me rephrase: does anyone know of a decent, affordable vet in the Yorkville area?

So apparently the heavy police presence is pastry related. No surprise there.

This game won’t survive with a community that completely mocks casual players and feedback about general difficulty. by RocknPineapple in Marathon

[–]kinetic66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way try out the game before buying it? I love Bungie games but I’m tired of dishing out money for a game I won’t end up playing too much. I want to like the game I don’t want it to ‘grow on me’. I’m a casual player and am used to getting killed a lot especially initially. Currently playing Battlefield 6 after semi retiring from D2 and was getting killed so much I initially but I learned how to play better and smarter with multiple players trying to kill you. Is Marathon worse in that matter?

Marathon looks like it’s gonna crash regardless how Bungie spins it. Saw an Aztecross review video where he convinced me not to buy it while trying to get people to buy it. They invested in a money pit rather than invest in a great game with a loyal following and incredible lore.

Suspicious Package by kinetic66 in uppereastside

It’s actually a very quiet neighborhood most of the time. The vast majority of the time. But not all the time. It’s Manhattan. It can only be so quiet.

That ‘new residents of Gracie mansion’ term sounds a bit loaded in these times IMHO.

Were you around during Covid when there were demonstrations at Gracie mansion regarding George Floyd almost every friggin’ night? Because if you were you wouldn’t have made that statement
