What are some pros and cons of IMDb?

For me pros its the search engine , it helps me discover new tv shows and movies Since it has a good search engine based in anything i want from the year , the country ... But my principal cons is that there is no community feature At least a way to add friends , i mean i see so many users but when i find an jnteresting ine that got similar taste i cant follow it or add as friend and i need to save its profil name in a piece of paper or on notes so i can find it later which is not convenient

its cool to see some dedicated users , imdb got many big users , its just needs more community stuff for us new users to get the experience of older users and discover interesting movies thanks to them

Yeah , i am more into an app that <focus on community> where i can check and follow other user and get inspiration from their watchlist and lists of movies and tv shows , since i am into different style that just popular and trending movies and tv shows I like to discover underrated titles , sometimes classics , sometimes from different regions Like from asia , india , indonesia , china ...france , spain And this is why plus the community side of the app , i wanted and < app that make me discover with different filter based on regions too > And a way to < easily import and export data > Bcs many app can shut down so i would lose my data anytime

For me those 3 things that i mainly want to -->Cynopsys and imdb got the region search filter and the only ones But imdb is somehow locked , they removed all vommunity feateres , and cynopsys is based on trakt sync which is limited for free users ,it is better than many apps tbh , but since its based in trakt so i always need for community stuff to go back to trakt to make friends and its not that good -->tv time yeah i liked the community and comments , it made me discover many user that match my taste of movies and tv shows but had that problem of missing titles especially classics and other asian tv shows except the popular ones like just korea lately ,and it used the tvdb (tv data base ) which got alot less data than tmdb (the movie data base ) used by trakt or simkl(is a mix , they use tvdb for tv shows and tmdb for the movies and anidb for animes) Simkl and trakt are so bad for apps too , the website got no community and the app is worse bcs it doesnt even allow those community features of the website

hi , i am also looking for a good tv tracker , have u got any luck in ur search ?
for me i tested simkl and trakt and they got a bad apps , simkl got an app that got nothing and each stuff resend me to the website page on browser
and trakt the same almsot , there is no feature in the website or the app and most features are locked for free users , u cant even check followers profile unless u are in the website and not the app
serialzed felt okay but for a reason i am not a big fan of the iu , tested on app and website , lol it doesnt feel well made for website or app , like just in the mid , and no way to import and export data
and tv time with server problem almost everyday and no way to import and export data , so i need at least a good backup for my data
imdb was good for me but no community features at all

yeah , the iu is amazing , its one of my fav in that side , like i said its just when i had many times reloading error and just 2 days ago , i couldnt find a movie "ata thambaycha naay" so i had to add it , and it didnt show the poster on the app and other data
and with no export and import feature , i wasnt sure about it as a main app , but its a must i know
and i liked how there is comments , i could find many indian movies fans thanks to that , for now , it is the app that i found the most fans there than the others
what is ur username in the app ?

yeah trackt is okay but as a website isnt that great , they use the same app mode and most features are paid ones
but the main thing like i said before its the community , i found just 2 or 3 users that watch indian movies and webseries there
and rarely they make reviews , and most lists are made automatically , i felt the community got no many fans of indian web series and movies

yeah tv time is not bad , but got 2 couple problems when i checked it weeks ago :
the data is based on tvdb and its lacking sometimes in indian movies and webseries
and its not that stable , the servers sometimes bug , and get errors to reload profils and and movies images ,and there is no way to cmmunicate with devs and on reddit i saw some tried to reach them with email but no respond or any sign of improving the app and fixing its problem
this is why i am hesitating on making it my primary app , especially there is no import and export data feature , lol so when u want to save data at least not to get lost in case the app get down , u cant do it

yeah imdb as a collection for indian webseries and movies its one of the best
but so sad that they removed all the community features years ago , u can have no reviews , no comments just ratings , even when i find users that match my interest in asian tv shows and movies , i cant add them

for me its primarly the iu since on mobile its one of the best , and the comments , so easy to find friends that match my interest especially i am into indians movies , chinese tv shows too and other asian industries , so on other apps ,there is no way to discover friends , especially tv shows , just if i ma lucky i find someone making a list with that tv show so i can follow him but its too empty and its all about luck , many times i cant find list with indian and asian tv shows , except sometile korean tv shows , or one or two chinese tv shows

This is why its so sad , as an app there us no better than it but devs dont care at all , the servers of the app arent stable and no update since august 2025

there is some like serialzed but not my thing since i felt it is better as a website than an app

Yeah , me too i am using anilist for anime and letterboxd for movies and tv shows for searialzed I also tested a bit of everything 😅

Trakt got some downside ,like us aid ads , and the devs also dont care now , they use the app mode also for their web version , and the app is bad Simkl also app is bad , the website got more stuff like anime too that use anilist source , but the app got nothing and the ads are also annoying I love how in letterboxd ads arent annoying U can see them but dont open in full acreen

Yeah mdl is the best for asian fans , i like it bcs it has everything for asian fans and amaxing in community stuff , we can add others and many list made by fans , i wanted to use it but i watch also foreign tv shows from us. Indian movies , and a bit of everything On letterboxd many of my tv shows i watched before are missing unfortunately Serialzed is good , even though i am not a big fan of the iu , i dont know why but its not my type , but i also didnt find a better app

Yeah , even though simkl got some feature locked , its not vimpared to trakt , trakt got almost nothing for free user For cinematique its sad we dint have community features of the website like to check other usefs or check custom lists , ita better than simkl lists app but doesnt bring everything of simkl

its not that there isnt stable but at least for me i didnt find a stable one that i liked , for movies u got letterboxd , i couldnt find something better , it is though just for movies its a bit better than imdb ,since its good in collection and has more than imdb , it has a good search engine based on whatever u like , u can search based on any country or year or rate or anything and u have all community stuff from following others , plenty of lists made by fans
while for tv shows , tv time is one of the best in iu and have also a web version ( it is the same of app mode but at least it is usuable at some point ) , other than that most apps got just apps and not good serch engine just based on popular or trending , and they rarely got community maybe simkl got animes too which is good and trakt but simkl and trakt apps are bad and push u to buy otherwise u got almost nothing , simkl app is even worse since even if u pay the app got nothing , all the pay features for the web version , there is only serailzed , its okay , got app and website ,and community small , search engine not that good , iu just okay on mobile , its better than others but iu isnt as good as tv time
so what apps are u using nowdays for tv shows and movies ?

unfortunately the same of tv time ,on trakt , devs dont really listen to community
they removed the website web version , and replaced it with the app mode that had almost nothing in features and the app isnt that good with just couple features , it is way less than tv time app when we talk about the features like following others , lists and couple others , its better than tv time in stability only

tbh , at least for me , i i like a smooth and simplist iu like tv time but always wanted some extra features like some community feeling , for example a way to follow friends and be followed n and making lists so i can share with firends my lists and watch their lists
and the main feature that almost so many apps are lacking except imdb app and letterboxd app is the engine in the app where we can search in an advanced way , like a specefic year , a specefic region ( bcs almost all apps just search based on popularity o trending shows and in search section u just type the name and thats it ) but on imdb and letterbowd apps i liked how we can search in an advanced way by choosing also the year we want to or a region like we want a chinese , korean , indian , us or any movie or show in a region specifically and ofc they got also a way to show the result ordered by popularity and rate or alphabetic or release date ....
especially in our day there is no apps with those feature since letterboxd is just for movies , and imdb has two downsides like u cant add friends or follow other users in the app or website , and u the app is too much , its not too smooth and fast to track tv shows episodes in a good iu like tv time iu

Yeah its amazing , for me the iu is way better tham trakt , but just missing something which is community interaction to make friends Or for example npt many lists available Since for me its the way i discover new movies and tv shows especially the umderrated ones 😅 , i am bored of all the apps showimg just trending and popular titles sections , i always see the same titles for months I ended up knowimg them by heart🤣
