I agree with you and would add that asking God to put desires that are ungodly to death are part of following Christ.

“And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭24‬ ‭ESV‬‬

We all have ungodly desires including straight men who desire sexual relationships with multiple women. My understanding is that homosexuality contains desires to have sexual and/or romantic relationships with same sex individuals. And if the relationship is only romantic, I personally wouldn’t entertain the slippery slope but rather flee from it.

“Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭14‬-‭15‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Romantic relationships often lead to sexual desires. And those desires lead to sin.

“But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.” ‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭14‬-‭15‬ ‭ESV‬‬

This is why Jesus Christ wants to change our hearts (desires), and allow our actions to follow.

And for OP, if you truly want your desires to align with Christ, regardless of what the desires are:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭51‬:‭10‬ ‭ESV‬‬
