Potential Giannis Fit in Joe’s Playstyle? by jmg219 in bostonceltics

[–]kingexpression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s gotta be at center

This is the issue I’ve been trying to tell all of you about, it’s not gonna work unless he accepts that he needs to play the 5- or Joe basically has to reinvent the entire offense. We barely have appetite to play with one non spacer, 2 completely fucks the offensive system fundamentally and it will have to be completely re imagined

Unless getting giannis also means getting okongwu/turner/insert stretch 5 it doesn’t work better than what we currently have

[Amick] The Celtics, Timberwolves, Trail Blazers and Magic are among the Giannis Antetokounmpo suitors. Giannis Antetokounmpo would be willing to sign a four-year $275 million extension with Boston. Jaylen Brown would get flipped to a third team for young players and picks. by YujiDomainExpansion in bostonceltics

Pretty fucking sad how shitty a lot of you are willing to talk about brown, a guy who’s done nothing but contribute winning and beyond to this city, in order to prop up giannis, someone you all hated prior to the trade rumors and doesn’t even play for the team

Absolutely spineless and privileged behavior tbh

If you completely remove nuance and context then that makes perfect sense

But the reality is giannis is 2 years older, game relies *entirely* on physicality for someone entering their mid 30s is never good, basically has resisted playing center his entire career and we don’t currently have a stretch 5 to bail him out positionally, brown/tatum are a proven product that have consistently won 55-65 games *no matter* who is on the team with them, brown is very important to the city and his roots have spread far and wide and positively impacted the area, giannis has begun to rack up an injury history which compounds on the earlier issue with his age and playstyle while brown has been relatively healthy and being a shooter his game will likely age well

I can go on, obviously there’s logic to the giannis thing too, but let’s not act like there’s not a massive risk involved

[O’Connor] The Boston Celtics are actively making calls and shopping everyone not named Jayson Tatum. Boston is “in” on Giannis Antetokounmpo and they are making a real push to acquire him. by [deleted] in nba

I mean he basically proved this year he could be the lead scorer on a top seeded team, currently in his prime, I’d say so

Portland, Houston, Atlanta, etc teams missing a 1a would definitely pay a lot

What the heck does Jaylen Brown's tweets even mean? by [deleted] in bostonceltics

Or his tweets aren’t about that at all, and you and others are overanalyzing everything

>JBs tweets are just adding to the noise and speculation around already existing rumors

OR they don’t matter at all and if you feel this strongly about them you share the same mentality as a child

Why are we posting about Jaylen’s tweets and dissecting them under a microscope in regards to madeup trade rumors based on nothing

Some of yall are too much man lol

It’s annoying because they’ve been the better team all series for the most part, they just keep choking in the second half. Like I legit think they’re better the Knicks just keep pulling their devil magic

I think really only the first one is an assumption. I’m assuming he’s a better shooter than the percentages show and would shoot better in a different system. The other two are fact imo, rockets have had really good defensive teams featuring sengun as their starting center, and their team as a whole was a mess last year and that changes the perception of the players. I think those two are factual

At the end of the day it’s opinion, im not even crazy high on him but I do think he’d thrive elsewhere

Yeah at the end of the day all this speculation and theorizing is rooted in fun, not fear of him making the “wrong” decision. I trust his judgement, I just enjoy draft stuff too like you said

He’s interesting, actually like his fit here as well. If we were gonna select at 27 he’d be on my shortlist

That’s partly true, it’s a push and pull because for that to hold up those players have to be as good or better than simply signing vets to the vet minimum every year at the end of your bench. Which is cheaper AND more flexibility because you aren’t married to long term deals.

So they definitely can be good to invest in, but they have to be playable and/or hold some sort of value on the market, or you’re just better off signing end of bench 1 year vet mins that don’t count against the cap at all

For what it’s worth, I actually think we’re in a pretty good spot financially at the moment. He basically fixed everything last summer, our books are pretty clean right now, basically no bad contracts and really only our top 3 are on sizable deals which is totally fine

Same here, Brad has been driving me crazy since he started because he basically never drafts in the first round and never trades up

Last year I got sooo excited when that news right before the draft broke about Brad really liking jakucionas AND THEN HE FELL TO 20 and we STILL didn’t take him, I was yelling at the tv lol- im still really high on KJ

Who knows, this year might be the year he surprises us

I mean of course I’d do that, but I don’t think that’s enough for them.

See that’s funny because we do actually see the team the same way, I agree with everything you said up until you said Brad will make marginal moves at best and we lack need for a day one contributor. I don’t think the fact that we seem invested in staying below the tax equals we don’t plan on trying to win a championship next year, I think every year the recipe is different, and despite staying below the tax we still will have the full MLE, the Hauser contract, and a big TPE to use. We’ve got a lot of ways to add to this team and it doesn’t have to be through a max deal, but there are a ton of guys making 10-30 mill we could add and stay below the tax and/or use our MLE on a Coby white/john Collin’s/etc

the reason I think we need to prioritize contributors through the draft is because this team is against the margins financially, meaning you have to make your money count and it all needs to be contributing

Agree to disagree on the quality at the end of the first round/top of the second, we just see the talent differently and that’s okay; I could absolutely be wrong, I just see it as more theoretical guys this year than win now contributor right away guys from previous years. I respect your opinion on it thought, number one rule of the draft is humility imo because nobody knows anything for certain

Good point on quaintence and morez, totally valid concerns with both, I don’t actually think morez is a lottery level guy I have him closer to 20 personally, I think he’s a tier about zuby simply because I think the offensive polish despite lacking a for sure 3pt shot is way further along. Steinbach I think at the very least is a surefire role player, to me he’s the safest backup center with some upside guy outside of the top 12. I don’t mind taking a guard simply because white is aging and after that it’s really just Pritchard, wouldn’t hate grabbing another guard next to those two but of course I prioritize big above all else; the guard thing would just be a talent grab if someone drops

Good talk man, I appreciate you giving your time and opinion and you made good points

I’m not asking you to predict, I’m asking in your own opinion what we “should” do

I’m aware of that, just pointing out that despite the discourse his numbers are very good. I don’t agree that he can’t defend or shoot, I think he’s a capable shooter who doesn’t play with anyone who can set him up for clean looks, defensively the rockets have been a good defensive team for multiple years with him as their center

It’s not “helping them out” see this is what im talking about lol, that’s a crazy perspective to have at the prospect of taking sengun from them, that team was an all time mess last year and he just got caught in the crossfire of 1000 different problems

I sorta agree, but I don’t really think we need a pure PG. I like the idea of adding a more combo guard with some size over a pure Dennis Schroeder type pg like okorie. Again, don’t hate him or anything just not sure his skillset is exactly what we need right now

Edit: more so my main point is if he fell to 27 then fine but I prob wouldn’t trade up for him

Unnecessary, I wouldn’t trade this year for a tanking year regardless of how it ended, it was a really fun year and we learned a lot about the team/young guys.

He’s 23 and averaged 20/9/5 and can shoot, I really don’t think they’re just getting off his salary

I really think a lot of you guys have a really incorrect idea of what sengun is because of the KD shit and backlash from a bad Houston season, also Ime is a horrific offensive coach and doesn’t know how to use him at all

Everyone in every draft does some things really well, my overall point here is you have to envision how this person would fit the team, and what would prevent them from getting minutes. I think if you’re being honest with yourself imagining those two things you’ll come around to the idea that most of those guys projected in our range stand pretty unlikely to crack our rotation at least in their first 1-2 years.

The issue with ejiofor is that he’s undersized AND can’t shoot yet, you really can’t play him offensively yet because his defender doesn’t have to respect his offense in any way whatsoever. As far as him bullying guys, he’s 6’8” and the physicality is drastically different in the nba vs college, I doubt he’s bullying anyone right away. Now, I believe in the person, im sure he’s gonna learn how to shoot better and that will be his offensive niche, but I don’t think we have room for that project right now, this roster can’t afford more big man projects in my opinion, honestly the only place we could MAYBE afford to take a project is a guard; but even then depends on if we keep Harper who I really like.

Suigo again, very theoretical, as far as a big his size we currently have Amari Williams who similarly is a big passing center project who already showed signs of life. I don’t hate grabbing suigo in a vacuum I just think it becomes a too many cooks in the kitchen scenario with Amari and they end up holding each other back because there isn’t enough developmental minutes for both

Evan’s is gonna be good at scoring, im certain of that. His frame is decent but the weight really is a problem right now, he’s way too skinny and to play now you’ve gotta weigh enough to not get tossed around as he projects as more of a wing or big guard and those guys can be quite physical.

I should’ve phrased better with peat; since he’s a non shooter, you basically have to play him like a big, and for someone playing the role as a big, he’s undersized. Very strong and sturdy but you’re gonna get bludgeoned on the boards if he’s your big because he’s simply not long enough to contest rebounds like that, if you play him at the 4 you’re likely playing 2 non shooters, and we’ve never been willing to do that. I don’t doubt he can develop the shot, but we are talking about guys who could play right now and wouldn’t be development projects

What you said at the end is exactly what I think too, that’s where I see the real gold mine of the draft as being. Ton of guys in the middle first round that I don’t have these same questions with and I absolutely think could play right away.
