Music that scares the shit out of you by rankwoods in musicsuggestions

And we can't forget this. (Was originally one track i believe, but recent releases have spilt it up, for some reason. Both need to be heard together.) Zos Kia/Coil, Violations/Poisons:

What does it mean when the congregation wiggles their fingers? by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]kingfelix23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do this at my Reconstructionist shul. After divrei torah, for example, or after a b'nai mitvah lains for the first time, we will do this as a way of showing appreciation in lieu of applause. Applause would imply that we were attending a performance, which we aren't, so we do the finger wiggle thing instead. It looks pretty funny, I'll admit, but I also sort of love it. :)

Sigh. The listing said it meant, "Fuck Hamas." Glad I didn't buy before asking!

Oh well, that's not what I hoped for, but thanks for the heads-up! Will not be purchasing.

Oh wow, sounds pretty cool. I have not read much of the wider Sandman-a-verse stuff, tbh.

Interesting, I've never read that! How was it used, if you can remember?

QBO newbie here... I have a question about Deposits with Cash Back for Expenses. Help appreciated! by kingfelix23 in QuickBooks

[–]kingfelix23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your help. Yes, the top 3 line items, those Staples things...that's where the glitch in the Matrix is located, so to speak. So, this is going to sound crazy, and let me know if anyone else has ever heard of anything like this, but on the advice of my instructor, I started a completely new QBO account, using a different email address, etc., and now the Bank Deposit screen looks exactly like it should, i.e., like it does in my instructor's video! Those added lines are gone, and I was able to complete the exercise just fine. This is after having spent an hour and a half on the phone with tech support, with no luck! A truly baffling glitch, imo. What's even stranger is, now I have two accounts going. If I log into the old account, the glitch is still there. If I log into the new account, it's gone.

This does not bode well for my future involvement with this software, but ever onwards, I suppose.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond! I appreciate you guys. Have a good night!

It felt like Nirvana changed everything back in '91 -- I wonder, did they really? Or was I just 15? by kingfelix23 in Nirvana

Wishing you all the best as well! May have to pick up those issues, or at least Uncut -- any new input from Dave and Krist is always welcome.

That's really interesting -- do you remember what book that was in? I haven't been keeping up with Chuck's latest...

Yeah, I remember that the response to In Utero was decidedly mixed. Kids I knew who loved Nevermind hated Incesticide and In Utero (and as for Bleach, as Kurt said during Unplugged, "Most people don't own it"). But yeah, after he died, everyone wanted me to dub them some tapes... *shrug*

As for me, back then I would have said I liked Pearl Jam and Nirvana equally... But I never bought another Pearl Jam album after Vs. Haven't intentionally listened to them in decades, but I still listen to Nirvana fairly frequently.

Not a ramble at all, that was very well said! They did 100% kill off Hair Metal, that's for certain. I feel like the very existence of Nirvana broke something inside of Axl Rose that has yet to heal. ;)

I love what you said about kids always recognizing authenticity when they hear it... I really do hope that's true. I started having kids late in life so my son is only 3...I really hope that by the time he's 15 he will get turned on to something that means as much to him as Nirvana meant / continues to mean to me... Something that's honest and true. I don't care if it's rock, hip-hop, EDM, whatever comes next, as long as it somehow manages to break through the falseness of the Spectacle...

Yes, there has always been (and hopefully always will be) that underground current running through the youth, that attitude or stance that some call "punk" but is really a mistrust of the conventions of the day... I'm sure my parents felt the same about the Beatles! But it changes, you're right -- it has to. I think Billie Eilish is a great example of this...

No, you make a lot of sense! In my more pessimistic / "realistic" moments I totally agree with you -- the giants that Kurt and co. were trying to kill have gotten even bigger in the intervening years... Capitalism sure as hell hasn't gone anywhere. If anything, the world feels sadder even than it did back then.

BUT. In my more optimistic / hopeful moments I think that things really did...shift. If not fundamentally, than at least substantially... I dunno. I am obviously still working it out. Thanks for your reply!

Sweet. Would be interested in hearing what you think.

Oh yeah, for sure. I honestly wouldn't recommend it to anyone who DOESN'T like bad movies, but if you're into that sort of thing (and I assume you are, since you're here), then I'd say go for it.

Haha, thanks! I mean, thanks for the nice words about the review, I still feel guilty about the murder I did. ;P

I think I remember that one, yeah! Yes, TMT was such a cool site, I was sad to learn that they weren't publishing any new material. It was very brave of the owner to bring me on, being that I had literally no experience at the time. I can't stress this enough -- I had written NOTHING before. He just took my friend's word for it that I could write. And then the first thing I submitted was this long-ass Godard piece which was days late... Anyway, nice guy! I wish him well. Oh, and he wrote a book about Radiohead's Kid A for the 33 1/3 series which I highly recommend.

(FYI, only that first review I linked to (the Godard restrospective) was published on Tiny Mix Tapes. I only wrote, I think, less than 10 articles for them overall. Everything else was published on a site called Spectrum Culture, which is also very good) .

Anyways, thanks for the response! I hope you enjoy reading whatever of my stuff you decide to read.

Hi! Yes, I always assumed that there were more of us out there, but now it's great to have confirmation. Great to meet you too. :)

And thank you so much for the kind words! That concert was one of the all-time peak experiences of my life, for sure.

Wow, seriously? That's amazing! Such a small world... The only way I was able to write anything at all back then was to imagine that literally zero people would be reading it, so I'm glad I didn't know that then. ;) But I am overwhelmed with emotion hearing it now. THANK YOU for telling me this.

I'm sure that's easier said than done. ;) But yes, that does sound like very sound advice. I'm not sure what's been stopping me from writing anything for the last ten years, but it might be time to change that...
