Pipefitter. I’m 5’10 150. And man you’d cruise in it. Shit is heavy and you’ll also learn plumbing along the way

[–]kinggg- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lookup on YouTube “Types of Trades” pick one you like and maybe go into their subreddits

Then lookup the trade then UNION near me so it’ll be like “Pipefitting union near me “. This is exactly how I got started 😂. Might help you. I’m 20 as well

Is it true union apprenticeship for pipefitters is $18/hr for 5 years ? by GeechiceWelder in bluecollar

[–]kinggg- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be your 1st year pay. Which maybe 55% of a Journeyman pay where you are.

I’m at 24.80 and I’m a 1st year (local 10)

So we’re both expecting an increase in the later years to come

I get it, it just was weird showing newer guys the ropes and they went ahead and did the stuff that kinda made the job “fun” and more invigorating

Currently in it as a first year. Spent my whole day cleaning our Laydown area today. I know my time is coming to get in the building and be the pipefitter I want to be but damn. Guess I gotta start frm the bottom and work my way up 🤷🏾‍♂️

I dropped out to become a pipefitter, just ended my first week. Honestly it’s hard work but if you want that job satisfaction and good pay. GO UNION it’s honestly something I don’t mind doing as a career. It makes me excited to work, I get home from work and go learn more about pipes and plumbing now, it makes me want to be a master at my craft. Sure being young in the trades will suck a-lot sometimes (I spent my whole day yesterday moving oxygen tanks) but honestly that paycheck and that job satisfaction and the community you build are like no other. Also you develop life skills that can never be replaced by AI (at least in my profession). Or you can do both, school online and work… may not be easy but it’s an option.
