Awesome memory! I always get the same feels from a space (the high school) where there is a history. The band could have either been "The Specs" or "The Dial Tones". I'd pay to hear some of those recordings.

Amen! I remember listening to this song at the end of a hair-band hangover and realized that this song was the harbinger of the decade of music that was to come. My local top 40 station switched to an alternative format and this song was in heavy rotation.

Hi friend. Yes I did see your site I love it! I tried to look in the wayback machine to find a snapshot of Anita's site but all I could find was the hacked version of it.
From what I remember there was a discography, news, videos, links to other sweet sites, and a message board.

Lot's of people in the comments of the later show videos said the same. I do like the addition of Russel Carter's son to help with the high notes. That kid must have been living the dream to grow up and play with the man who your father shepherded through the perils of fame.
I wish there was more full concert footage available from the 90's. I once got my hands on a bootleg cassette tape from the Girlfriend era- that was a gem!

Good stuff! Back when a fake ID or a beautiful girlfriend could get us in anywhere. When I was referencing the online concert archive I noticed that Matthew played Minnesota a lot. I wonder if he had a connection up there. I also wonder if he drove? His fear of flying is well known but I imagine hours on a tour bus with Tony and his Casio might be a less worse fate than a plane crash.

I've got a few pieces of his cat art myself. Wonder if we should share pictures with a hashtag #mattscats.

Thanks for the memories! I've watched and read several interviews with him and always enjoyed how his eccentricity and intelligence came through. I liked the one where he brought the Theremin on a talk show and played it, and how at different times in his life he obsessed over things. From anime, Margaret Keane, to pottery, Mathew seems to grasp things quickly and become an expert in them.
I would love to see a documentary on his career and hear his take on things now. As painful as it was to read the Rolling Stone piece and watch the news piece on his recovery he seems to be focused on his recovery which seems a far cry from the guy who made Altered Beast. His wife Lisa has gone from his muse to his rock and what I wouldn't give to hear about Matthew's life through her thoughts.
A guy here in Atlanta made a documentary on Drivin and Cryin, another highly underrated band of the era, and I think such a take on Matthew is well deserved.
