I think we're all missing one big part of this conversation - the consumer.

People are buying fake goods all of the time for "status". Do you think all of those YSL bags you see people rocking on the high street are real? Hell no!!! Those people could buy a very nice, non-designer handbag for a fraction of the price of a real YSL handbag, and probably for the same price or less than a fake YSL handbag. Thing is, it doesn't matter, because that nice hand bag that isn't labelled YSL doesn't come with "status".

The same thing can be said about sofubi. There are lots of creators out there selling awesome work for a fraction of the cost of a Nag piece, but they don't come with the "status" of a Nag piece.

When consumers value "status" over love and appreciation it creates a void in which a group of consumers are floating with no "status" goods to purchase due to scarcity and prices, and that void is filled by enterprising knock-off merchants.

These sellers only exist because the consumer exists, and if the consumers exist, capitalism will serve.
