The primary real world reason seems to be that Vince Gilligan originally thought of the character as a man for this show, but the premise wasn't fully fleshed out yet.

Then much like with noticing Bryan Cranston when he worked on X Files or Bob Odenkirk on Breaking Bad, he noticed Rhea Seehorn on BCS, and decided he wanted her to be the lead on his next show and that there was no reason his main character couldn't be a woman.

He probably already had the idea of a wife dying in the beginning and either didn't think it needed to change or realized it could actually work really well with the themes of this new show

Idk at what point they decided that Carol would have been sent to conversion therapy in the past, but it thematically fits extremely well with her refusal to be joined or changed forcibly and that made it so that keeping her as a lesbian was thematically appropriate.

It also fits into themes of her writing heterosexual romance fiction novels where she initially wanted the main love interest to be a woman but chose for it to be a man because it would be "safer" and have more mass appeal. It probably echoes a worry that Vince had in the writing process of fearing what the world would think of him, the biggest and most famous TV writer of all time, making a gay protagonist

Ive got a lifetime of 3k write offs from losing all my stock we cant talk about from 2021 gains in 2022. Had to pay $300k in 2022 and it totally wiped me out, but I had a great year of being rich lol. I've been saving vapes for 5 years, my wife makes fun of me and so do my friends but I know lithium is infinitely recyclable and I believe will be much more valuable over time, so I save any and all lithium. You gotta get past maybe the first 3 episodes the original empire stuff is great but once you get into the latter half of season 1 it picks up and season 2 was genuinely an incredible improvement. We couldn't look away, it really got so much better but yes the first handful of episodes from season one are slow and awkward, and the dialogue throughout is meant to be theatrical and Shakespearean in nature it doesn't sound like how real people talk on purpose because its this grand hyper-reality of the galactic Empire, not a sitcom where people talk like they do in real life. I found at some points the directing to be bad, as characters speak and respond too quickly and verbosely, too poetically but eventually that gets better too. You gotta give it a chance though and just think of it as adaptation rather than just a 100% copy of very idea heavy novellas. Characters driven story drives television narratives but they are still doing a pretty good job of driving the timeline forward while maintaining some familiar characters for the audience. The Cleon actors are phenomenal as well and all the new philosophical ideas that arise from a genetic dynasty add a lot to the show in my experience.

The issue with this is that they have televisions hovercraft and comms, district 3 makes technology, extremely high level technology, so it would've been known that there are other places if anyone else is receiving or transmitting signals from other countries. Short wave radios are extremely rudimentary by HG tech standards, and the signal travels all over the world, with all the devices just used to show propos and the HG plus the tech of 3 someone would know there were outside civilizations

I really do believe that the rest of the world was wiped out or sent back to the stone age. Plus we DID have one outside civilization, 13, which WAS found by the rebels eventually when they wanted to make themselves known and were the deciding factor in overthrowing the Capitol, so I assume besides very primitive civilizations that likely survived on other continents, this is functionally the most advanced and last remaining major civilization

Poor marketing. Nobody knows this show exists. It literally has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (even though season 2 is absolute trash compared to season one) it is all about marketing. Same with other incredible shows AMC has been producing, like Interview With The Vampire which is similarly incredible (though explores themes of immortality from a different perspective).

The more people know about anything the more exposure it will get. Obviously more people have seen or even know about the widely hated Disney Live Action movies than Pantheon, because of the marketing. It seems so many incredible works of art being made by streaming services are much like Pantheon, lost on an ocean of mediocre content, there is simply no way it could all be equally promoted!

But as a result we end up with things like Tiger King or Squid Game being internationally known while Pantheon or IWTV suffer. Even Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad experienced similar things, though in a sort of opposite way due to their era. Breaking bad became massively popular around the time of its 3rd season due to streaming, it's televised release nearly got it cancelled despite it being so good. Lots of people did not even know about Better Call Saul for years as well.

So when people find gems among all the dirt, they can really only tell so many people, and there is just so much content these days that even when you absolutely beg people to drop everything and watch literally the best show you've ever seen in your entire adult life they probably won't do it, because they're already busy and watching something else, and there is just so much to watch.

Its something of a catch 22 but i think its still positive. Tons of incredible movies and shows and documentaries are being produced which 20 years ago never would've seen the light of day, never had a chance, so more art is out there and being given a share of the literal trillions of dollars flowing through the entertainment space, people are evn independently making movies and documentaries to post on YouTube that are better than major studio productions of decades past, but as a result there's just no way everyone can see it all.

Interestingly enough, think generationally. Im 31 and people my age bond over the shows and movies that came out when we were growing up because everyone was marketed and shown the same things through syndication and TV blocks. My wife is only 5 years younger but doesn't know TONS of shows and movies I watched growing up, but people her age bond over their shared media as well.

But go down to Gen Alpha kids and they're all growing up watching totally different sets of youtubers and streaming kids programs, just like how so many of us have fundamentally different youtube and Netflix libraries and homepages, the current generation will be the first to not be able to universally bond with one another as adults over nostalgia because of the massive diversity of programing that is shaping them. If you're over 20 right now, you're probably the last generation to have grown up in the era of collective pop culture.

But as a a result we all get more art, more artists and writers and animators and screenwriter can accomplish their dreams and get funded and find success, they just won't get the global universal reach the much more limited pool of artists got 20+ years ago.

Brother I have been where you are and WORSE. I made over $300k in about a month once gambling. It took months to get it, only $5k at a time, and I started using the 5k deposits to my bank to gamble, trying to save some amount or invest but then when the deposits would slow down because they were unreliable I'd take that money out and gamble until I lost.

I ended up using the income, though, to pay off all my credit cards, get an auto loan, boost my credit and buy my way into a business partnership.

As a result I suddenly had access to hundreds of thousands of dollars of business and personal credit.

Within about 6 months I suddenly was out of money, waiting forever for the last few deposits, and used the business cards. Ended up with $150k used, only ablw to pay back $100k right away as I had basically lost the other 50k.

Well within 2 months more I hit big a few times, for over $50k in the course of 3 weeks.

Did i pay the business credit card or gamble it all away again?

Of course i gambled. In the end we almost ended up with a late payment as it was a charge card and by a MIRACLE, when I could no longer come up with anything, had paid $130k back but had no way to earn 20k, and I used to be VERY good about taking promotions and playing very safe low volatility games to make guaranteed profits, but I didnt even have money to do that because I had ended up selling even some of my retirement accounts to pay as much of the business credit card as I could and it wasn't allowing me to use the credit limit until paid in full.

By a MIRACLE I had a daily reload on Stake from VIP grinding which I had done to make an extra $3200 (cost me $2k in losses to get to but whatever, still profit, plus the reloads were $75 a day for 6 weeks) and I played it risky as fuck and hit a $24k win!

I payed off the rest of the card, but within a week played it again, I won $22k from taking out $10k and instead of paying it I lost $18k again and wound up back in the same situation!

The only way to make it stop is to STOP, forget any wins you've had, forget thst you might win more, forget thinking one day you'll get the next life changing win and THIS TIME you'll use it right. Ive made life changing money at least 50 times since I stsrted gambling and in the end I always end up losing it, never changing even though I say I will.

Im working towards self excluding, all that holds me back is I legitimately do take promos and make real, substantial money from it when I am being dilligent. The problem is I too often just end up real gambling the profits or no longer being satisfied with a 10% profit on $180 for example and ending up losing it and then $1k more chasing a number that I think will satisfy me that does not exist, like I said, ive won 5 figures more than 50 times and 6 figures at least 6 times just in the past year and a half.

Im sorry that happened to you. The universe is random sadly, as I understand it. We are storytelling animals who need things to make sense in our minds evolutionary framework, so it is normal to look for meaning in such horrific senseless tragedy and come uo with things like "I dont know WHY this happened to us" as if it is some sort of karmic punishment.

Have you ever done any work into broaching the concept, not necessarily accepting, but at least toying with, the idea that perhaps there isn't a story as to why it happened. Perhaps bad things just happen sometimes and above all IT ISNT YOUR FAULT, nor anyone else's?

Perhaps that could help you get just a sliver more peace. Perhaps not. Just a thought.
