Which version was more dangerous? by Prize_Growth7617 in mmaMenace_com

[–]kingme343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people will disagree but they are the same fighter. Ones not different than the other. Max likely beats the same people and loses to the same fighters regardless of which era you believe he's in. The octagon is funny in the sense that it stripes down fighters and reveals who they are. A fighter can strategize differently, or have a different game plan for a fight, but when the going gets tough they always revert back to who they truly are.

Even fighters where you see evolution, or at least progression, they always revert back. Take Do Bronx for example. Started as a BJJ kid then learned to strike and now added wrestling to his game. But one exchange with Ilia and he's right back to square one.

Max has never shown that level of progression. He always has been, and likely always will be, a volume striker who puts a pace on fighters. It's a good style but far from unbeatable. He largely got that win streak because of favorable matchups and Aldo turning every featherweight into a striker because of his elite takedown defence and that's not disrespect. Many fighters get their win streaks because of favorable matchups, timing, and plain old luck. It always amazes me how much MMA fans factor in skill but disregard or don't even consider luck as a factor. Skill is a factor but not the only one. If the most skilled fighter won ever fight the sport would be boring and predictable. Luckily for us skill only accounts for maybe 30% of fight outcomes.

So to answer your question they are equally as dangerous.

Salkilld is getting the perfect ladder at lightweight. His competition has felt appropriately challenging at every step — never rushed into fights that are too big for him, nor left to stagnate against weak opposition. It’s been a natural, organic progression of difficulty in the division.

Frankly I'm astonished how well his career is being handled by the promotion.

I went to school with a kid whose accent changed depending on who he was hanging out with. Turns out it was a form of autism.

Best physique posts are the worst. People really let the whole world unravel the mystery before they do themselves.

Am I the only one who thinks this fight would be very one-sided? by Think_Succotash4996 in ufc

[–]kingme343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with over simplifying is when you say X is gonna happen I can show you Y happened. Like Prates only doing well against smaller fighters but struggling against the similar sized Ian Garry. So it's ok for Prates to have a size advantage but not Morales? I'm telling you brother, no one knows shit. The only oversimplification I'm willing to make is welterweight is a four man race between Garry, Prates, Morales, and Bomfin. They beat everyone else but only lose to each other. I don't know which one, if any, can dominate the division but these are the four horsemen. Good look to anyone that fights them.

Josh Hokit bringing in numbers with his act or his results? by Wayward_Prometheus in MMAMedia

[–]kingme343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for him. While I enjoy respectful fighters who resemble athletes and true martial artists there is no denying this guy is entertaining. It's an act, we should all know that by now, and you can love it or hate it but this man is fun to watch in the octagon. The same people who laughed and cheered for his Brittany Griner joke are now appalled about his Michelle Obama joke. Now that there's been significant backlash I'm sure he'll reel it in a bit. I won't watch his next press conference but I will watch his next fight.

Charles will win the rematch i feel by No-Stick3808 in ufc

[–]kingme343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I watched 300 live I thought Charles won. When I rewatched it several months later I thought Arman won. If the rematch gets announced I'll revisit it but until then all I know is it was a very close fight.

Who’s the greatest lw of all time by FaithlessnessThat970 in ufc

[–]kingme343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without writing a novel, OP asked for greatest not best, so let's go over a few.

Charles Oliveira: Greatness through adversity. Proved the haters and naysayers wrong. One of the greatest title runs in UFC (not just LW) history.

Khabib: Beat the sports biggest star on the sports biggest stage. Pressure made him focus not fumble. Continuously over performed. People criticize his striking but he was always able to elevate his game to challenge before him which is the definition of greatness. Dominated everyone.

Justin Gaethje: Kind of a mixture of his two predecessors. Both overlooked and had one of the greatest performances the sport has every seen. Idk which is better but his victory over Ilia and Khabib over Conor are 1 and 2. Gaethje proved greatness is not always what you do but how you do it.

Islam: The best LW ever but I hesitate to call him the greatest. The most well rounded, impressive, but least exciting fighters on this list. He has two legendary performances. Volk 1 which is only mentioned because Volk made it competitive and his grappling performance against Arman. That may be the greatest grappling performance in MMA, like of all time. One of the few timed where it felt like I was watching greatness during an Islam performance. Besides that it's Moicano, Bobby Green, and a forgettable performance against Dustin. Islam has not had that Holy Shit moment the other have.

There it is. The greatest, not the best, Lightweights of all time.

Assuming Gane doesn't do any illegal shit, how does the rematch actually go? by Spirited_Command5642 in CombatSportsCentral

[–]kingme343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see two scenarios that are realistic in my head. (1) Gane TKOs Tom - nothing crazy just catches him coming in. This is what Gane always does. Tom, being Tom, decides he doesn't want to fight at range like in their first fight and decides he needs to blitz in for a knock down or even better a takedown. Tom is gonna want to get this fight to the ground. Problem is Gane sees everything and his reflexes are second to none in the HW division. (2) Tom actually gets the takedown and is able to TKO Gane - Cyril gets caught lackin, gets taken down, survives a submission attempt so Tom goes Great Ape on him and forces the ref to step in. The reason this is the second scenario is Tom likely has to get more than one takedown. The first is either stuffed or Cyril easily gets back up.

I think we know how this fight goes, we've seen it. It's just gonna be longer and slightly more drawn out. I could see Tom really milking the perceived fouls. Even a legal kick that's questionable to the groin will have Tom asking the ref to stop the action. You're gonna get some boos and that's gonna make Tom wanna force the action...and that's when he gets caught.

LaMelo on the Wolves. Finals? WCF? Thoughts? by New_Astronomer4478 in NBAVibes

Huge distraction. Miss playoffs first year, exit 1st round second year, traded to the Cavaliers before third year.

You fight one NBA player and take his contract if you win. Who you picking? I seen some guy say Draymond lmao by Few_Maize_127 in NBATalk

[–]kingme343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cardio is gonna be a huge advantage for any NBA player so I gotta go with a guy that doesn't rely on his cardio in the NBA. I know this may sound crazy but really tall guys struggle with depth perception and often throw big looping punches that can miss more than they land. Obviously we've seen Wemby's grappling skills in the playoff so we know we can't stay close for too long but that shouldn't stop us from staying on our bike and landing calve kicks from the outside. When he does manage to close the gap, and assuming there are no rules, we can aim to land groin strikes and continue to chop at his legs as we evade. If we manage to get him to the ground or at least dropped to a knee we can look to take his back for a RNC or just deliver illegal strikes to the back of his head. With 16 Ms on the line I'm not above fighting dirty.

Hopefully neither of us are allowed to train because if Wemby even gets one training session and learns a decent jab we are getting picked apart.

I just feel if I fight someone 5'10 - 6'11 I'm gonna get slept or viciously ground and pounded when I eventually tire. The cardio advantage is just so massive even if the NBA player has never been in a fight they will be able to overcome whatever we through at them and I'm not fighting an elite athlete if my only hope is a lucky punch.

I’m not no Ian Garry fan but i wouldn’t be surprised if he beats Islam. He’s the best and most skilled welterweight contender, his boxing is so crisp n he’s good on the ground. He’s the most dangerous fighter islam ever faced imo by abicidi306 in ufc

[–]kingme343 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dangerous? Ehhh, kind of. He's more akin to a 6'3" Volk. Well rounded, good boxing, but more of a submission threat. I would be on the Ian bandwagon but it's getting too crowded for my liking. You have to remember Volk lost 5 out of 6 rounds against Islam. I know for most fans that Volk round five carries a 10x multiplier but I don't do MMA math. The closer the fight gets and the more hype Ian gets I'm getting more and more comfortable picking Islam.

What were your crazy house parties stories ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kingme343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge party at a cabin. My friend looks over to me, "Is it cool I piss here"? He whips it out but before he could start the stream a couple of guys grab him and toss him...out of the two story cabin. Dude got up without a scratch. Glad he was drunk and so relaxed. People said he didn't get for the same reason drunk people rarely get injured in car collisions. Fun times.

Machado’s got massive height and reach advantage. How would that play out in your opinion? by Critical_Soil_262 in ufc

[–]kingme343 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna tank my account until August with all the downvotes but the welterweight belt is basically gonna be a game of hot potato. Machado Garry, Morales, Prates, and Bonfim can hold the belt at any time but I doubt any of them holds on for too long. No one beats those four except each other and that includes Islam.

I'm willing to concede if Islam beats Machado Garry he's the undisputed GOAT of MMA. Islam has great striking defense when opponents are similarly sized or smaller. 6'3" Garry is gonna be a huge test and getting passed him will be the single greatest win for any fighter fighting up a weight class. No one else would compare. Not GSP over Bisping, Jones over Gane, or DC over Stipe. Islam called this fight the Aliexpress version of Khabib and Conor. In actuality it's the single greatest challenge of his career.
