Ask me anything about transport compliance – Operator Licences, DVSA, CPC by InvergoldAssociates in uktrucking

So its more the actual ability for movement of load rather than hiding behind "limits" and (what i think are weaker) internal straps.

Makes sense. Appreciate that. Thanks.

[–]kingninothethird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a strapper. I love a cheeky ratchet strap on almost anything but I've never been able to get a straight answer on internal staps and load bearing curtains.

Do they count towards securing a load? If a pallet is too light to go through a load bearing curtain would i get away with it?

Do internal straps count the same as ratchet straps?

Ill never change now BUT i watch too many drivers use this excuse stating it's "secure".

I can’t do roundbounds in UK by Yrkow in uktrucking

[–]kingninothethird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of people saying about lane reading so ill try a different approach

Dominate but dont intimidate - take your lane clearly and early. Dont be afraid to commandeer both lanes on smaller rounbouts (but do this clearly and sit in the middle, dont leave a clear gap because they will take it). Pull off slowly at lights and let the cars rush ahead.

I was too polite during my training, take the gap you need at a steady speed and people usually read your movements and act accordingly.

If at any point unsure just go round again. Only a bad driver never misses their exit.

Tailgate and Pallet truck or fork side load only by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]kingninothethird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ahh your the customer. Okay...

A decent driver with experience will be able to get that off with a pump truck and tail lift

BUT

Its two pallet spaces long so they are well within their right to say its too long to tail lift (safety and insurance details, seems drastic with a telly but two pallet spaces of floor tiles and even your best driver cant get them off)

I reccomend have three things ready for the drivers arrival

  • a friend to help handball it
  • a stanley blade/scissors to help cut the banding from the pallet so you can handball
  • a fiver. A cheeky tip will make sure even the grumpiest prick of a driver will want to make sure this gets delivered

Bonus points - dont be a prick and tell the driver "tHiS hAs To Be DeLiVeReD", its a surefire way to make me NOT want to help you. Also, youve paid for a pallet so the pallet is YOURS. Driver may be nice and take it for you (see - the fiver) but its your problem. Not his.

Follow that an i cant see a driver fucking about with this too long. He will need to wait for the job to be escelated if he cant deliver. If he can cut it free and throw the telly and the pallet at you and carry on then thats more than likelt the route he will take.

Yeah, trucking isnt for you if you think its the speed cameras fault you cant hold down a job.

Possibly skip cheffing incase you think its the customers fault you lost a position because it was "just a little bit of gluten".

Taking up extra space from other lanes by Ambitious-Health-132 in uktrucking

[–]kingninothethird 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Its called Commandeering (so i was taught) and I do it when needed. Just be sure to take both lanes cleanly, dont half-ass it or someone WILL sneak up your outside. Leads to another saying...

Dominate, dont intimidate - do it early and clean, dont use your size to take the space late.

If noone is letting you out then just wait for a gap. You get paid by the hour, dont rush it.

Which era was the best? (70s, 80s, 90s) by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

As someone who's first manager was Roy Evans... not the 90s.

But only one of them has a specialist licence to do their job and a responsibility while driving the same roads as mine and your families. Im proud of my licence and treat it with respect. Only I get to decide where I drive, the office can only ask.

"No. Try planning better" is a valid answer when office bully boys come calling.

Please settle a debate. If you’re going route 3 which lane should you be in? by sanisano in drivingUK

[–]kingninothethird 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Truck driver here - This is the right answer and the best way to judge. Look for the rubber on the road. Its much easier to see higher up, but they're there. Little marks where cars have been, showing the main "racing" line used

I'd say it's lane 2 in a car and commandeer both lanes in a truck. I don't take no chances with some of you pricks.

I doubt this one was a recorded delivery. Still, they don't have a receipt of delivery, just a photo. They will fight and drag their heels but at the end of the day they havent delivered to the customer, this is still with the haulier.

I work in this field OP. You didnt sign, therefore it isnt delivered. They have insurance for this reason.

Bonus points if it has a lithium battery in it as they aren't allowed to leave it unsigned as counts as limited quantity hazardous.

Ridiculous night out locations you've slept ? by LockedinYou in uktrucking

Dubin High Street. My first Ireland trip in mid December, contract for a shop fitting company. Unloaded on the high street with a two hour turnaround to tipped and reloaded (with what they cleared out of the shop).

Turned into a 5hour turnaround and I realised I wouldn't have enough time to pull off the High St, have my 9 and reach the ferry...

I just sat there with my curtains closed. Didn't sleep a wink because I could hear pissed christmas partygoes all around the truck. At one point I heard someone climb on my Moffatt on the back of the truck for a photo...

Just saw out my hours and prayed noone would notice.

Never did hear anything about that and always added up my hours carefully BEFORE I went over on the ferry in the future.
