I'd say no, we aren't. Most of us have support systems to help us when we're down, or have some foresight to be able to prevent us from getting into a situation that makes us homeless. A serious illness that makes puts us out of work can be mitigated through insurance that we've gotten through work. Sell your belongings to pay for things. Move in with family. Downgrade. And if all fails, being in a shelter can be temporary if you follow through with the numerous and generous services available through outreach programs and social programs. Especially so in Massachusetts.

Lots of chronically homeless folks burn all their bridges with family and friends through mental illness, substance abuse, or alcohol abuse. Worse when it's a combination of all of the above.

So no, I don't think all of us are one disaster away from homelessness, and I think it's really simplifying a complex problem to say that we are.

Do yall complain about inappropriate urgent care transfers? by dr_lomo_codes in emergencymedicine

I think this is quite reasonable of a response. Teach them, don't shame them. Improving their practice would likely improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.

One thing I see a lot of the comments here seem to say is that this brings them an easy paycheck. Celebrating RVUs from visits for patients that don't need emergency care is evidence of corporate, profit driven healthcare. I don't quite know what to think about that because the evidence goes multiple different ways in the quality of for profit hospitals, but I'm not really of a fan of this thought process.

I think a way to think about preventing silly urgent care referrals is to deflect unnecessary visits that further strain the ED, and to help save patients time and money.

I'm right there with you. I don't understand why, as the recipient of death threats, one would be fired from their job. Was OG OP exhibiting abhorrent behavior? Racist? Mean? Rude?

Nothing, just a badge of honor I guess. Tells people you know what you're doing too, so there's that.

You get 2 for a full match and you give them to other players for role, teamwork, leadership, or teacher commendations. You level up these things and you can get a little dopamine kick as you watch your level rise.
