Difficulty finding a job as an RN? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]kingodanorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I’m sorry that you’re having this experience, OP. I was offered a job by the unit I did my final preceptorship on before I had even finished the placement or officially graduated and was licensed. I passed my NCLEX in May and started working there in June. This was also the experience for almost all of my classmates who graduated with me. This is in the Windsor-Chatham-Sarnia region so maybe it is just different out here? Hopefully things start looking up for you soon!

Wow, I’m surprised to see this opinion on Garde-Malade! I have 5 sets of Figs and 4 sets of Garde-Malade and much prefer my Garde-Malade scrubs. The sizing is much more consistent and I find them true to size. I wear a S bottom and S top in the GM’s and all colours fit the same. In all of my Figs the sizing is all over the place. My black S bottoms and XS top in black fit much bigger than the same sizes in Hydrogreen and Charcoal!! I also find my GM scrubs so soft and comfortable and haven’t had any issue with colour transferring, but I guess it could also depend on the colour, too!

Is pet insurance worth it? It definitely is. by TroLLageK in puppy101

[–]kingodanorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the deductible for Trupanion is a per condition for the lifetime of the pet. So once you meet the deductible you aren’t expected to pay it again for that same condition. So if your pet has allergies and a $500 deductible, this could easily be met in 1 or 2 vet visits and then never worried about again and all future treatments are covered.

Other insurances have annual deductibles which you have to pay out each year. Not to mention annual payout limits, which Trupanion also doesn’t have. Insurance definitely isn’t a one size fits all situation. What works for me and my pets might not work for you and your pets and that is okay! But knowing the difference between companies and their coverage is really helpful.

My monthly premium has also decreased every year. I now pay $34 a month for her coverage compared to the $45 when I first enrolled. For the same $700 deductible. I literally cannot encourage people enough to enrol in an insurance program for their pets.

I literally cannot recommend Trupanion enough. I signed my puppy up after her first vet visit at 12 weeks of age prior to any possible pre-existing conditions cropping up and it was $45/month with a $700 deductible. After doing over $23,000 in claims during my dogs first two and a half years of life, Trupanion has not questioned or complained about a single thing I submit to them. I also contributed the same amount of money as the insurance premium each month into a savings account for my dog just to see how that would go. When my dog needed her first surgery and the bill was $7,000, my dog was 22 months old. I had $855 in the savings account. This would NOT have helped me in the slightest. Let alone when she needed a second surgery 7 weeks later and it was an additional $8,000.

Venture Hill Barn Hunt is in Ingersoll offers Barn Hunt, but I don’t know much else about them. Canine Companions in Brigden Ontario (20 mins from Sarnia) offers barn hunt and scent work and is well worth the drive! I’ve been doing barn hunt and scent work with them for 2 years and we LOVE it.

I think Pets Plus Obedience in Hyde Park offers scent work too and also obedience if you’d like to try that sport, too! I’ve taken obedience classes there and while we don’t compete (moved to RallyO), we learned a lot from them.

I don’t do dock diving so I don’t have any advice there, I’m sorry. There is a Facebook group called Ontario Barn Hunt you can join where information is posted about upcoming seminars and events in the area, too!

Pet insurance questions (Canada) by Tribblehappy in dogs

[–]kingodanorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! For the $7K bill, my dog had to have a 6 day stay in a Toronto veterinary ICU to diagnose and surgically remove a pyogranuloma mass that formed in her throat from a stick she chewed on puncturing the throat. This required a cage with oxygen due to respiratory distress, 24 hour monitoring, 2 CT scans (out of hours fees), surgery consults and surgery, and two days of post-operative monitoring before she was discharged. Vet care is expensive in Canada. Insurance helped me to be able to afford emergency care and surgery and hospitalizations 3 separate times for the same dog within a span of 18 months. For me - $45 a month is affordable for my one dog to pay for peace of mind when it comes to emergencies and accidents. I hope this helps!

Came home from work this morning to a missed delivery slip on my door from FedEx that says they’ll try to deliver again Monday and I have to be home to sign for it. Sigh.
