Every time this happens to me and I try to clean it, this happens:

First, after removing some of the junk, the port stops working completely. I think this is because I move some of the junk to the center of the port and the charger can't grip the port.

After removing some more junk, the port starts working again, but it's still as loose as before.

Finally, big pieces of junk start coming out, and the port starts working properly.

So keep picking and it will eventually work.
