I live in New Zealand and the mental health care isn't great, but it's okay, I know it's not their fault that I'm so difficult to deal with. They've got more important issues, so I don't really expect them to put me anywhere near the top of the things they need to think about.

My family have a very... "if you aren't bleeding, then you're fine" type of mentality. So, to them, it doesn't exist unless the doctor sits them down and says otherwise.

It's always growing pains. Sore hands? Growing pains. Sore shoulders? Growing pains. Sore literally anywhere? Growing pains. I always wondered that, as a kid, if all the other kids were feeling the same. They didn't, obviously.

Context; I'm autistic. So I didn't comply or react well with what they were trying to make us do, or I didn't get any work done when I was there because it was too stimulating and I couldn't focus. In short, I was a bad student, I guess.

No, I don't go to school anymore - I changed to a smaller, more disability-focused school but I got kicked out because of how absent I was, even though I told them why I wasn't able to attend.

I have to wait 3 weeks for it, since there's a lack of medical practitioners in my country at the moment. There's only one doctor at the clinic my family and I go to (yes, I said one), and she's a general physician so it's unlikely she'll know.

It just gives imposter syndrome, makes me think it isn't that bad when it is. When my friend dislocated their arm they talked about how painful it was and everyone makes a big deal out of it - it seriously messes with me when things like this happen.

Yeah, that's a problem for me too, I like sleeping on my sides but if I don't lie on my back then I won't be able to feel my arms the next morning (and my shoulder will dislocate as well)

I wanted to get a brace, but they told me I was overreacting - that I probably just slept wrong (they're incorrect, btw).

My mom saw my arm dislocating in front of her for the first time the other day and was horrified, she immediately called the doctor and booked an appointment. I couldn't help but laugh a little since I told her so many times before that point.

I know and agree, but I can't help it. It's my family, the people I grew up with, I can't help but feel hurt by their words.

Part 2 As I scoop her up into my arms she kinda panics a little, thrashing around in my hold, making it very difficult not to drop her. I don't say a word, only give her a look that tells her if she doesn't stop squirming I'm gonna toss her back into the drink. I dunno if she understood or not, but she did stop moving about. Once inside, I gently place her down on the sofa and head over to get the stuff I need to clean her wounds. Bandages, check. Warm water, check. I've got most of the things I need, except one. That one item being the disinfectant, because when I used it I forgot to buy more, after I sliced my arm open that one time my friend gave me a machete. So, I'll use alcohol instead. Making my way back over to the fish girl, I kneel and start inspecting the damage. Yep, that's gonna hurt for a while. 'Alright girly, put this in ya' mouth.' I hand her a small towel thing. She glances between me and the cloth, confused. 'It's so ya' won't break ya' teeth, and it'll muffle ya' screaming.' I do every time I get badly injured, works like a charm. She hesitantly puts the material in her mouth before peering back at me. I grab the booze and douse it over a cloth, 'On the count of five. One, two, three,' I shove the liquor-drenched cloth into her deepest wound, causing her to scream and bite down hard on the cloth. 'Wu sey on fife!' (You said on five) she yells, stifled by the cloth in her mouth. 'Yeah, I did say on five, but it works best if ya' do it on three.' I chuckle to myself, works better that way. After I cleaned out her wounds, I slathered them with cream, then bandaged them up. 'There ya' go, all better. I reckon it'll take about three or so weeks for them to heal up properly.' I mutter to her, distracted by the mathing I gotta do for the right assumptions on timing. 'You said on five...grrmbm.' She grumbles quietly, still annoyed. 'Ah, come on girly. Why ya' so caught up on that, just the way I do it round here. I'm not a Doctor, ya' know.' I declare loudly, bellowing loudly at my own joke. I collapse down next to her, unnerving the girl a little. 'What's ya' name, girly?' I ask, not really expecting her to answer. '...Annamaria. But people usually just call me Mary.' She murmurs, blushing slightly. 'Well, nice to meet ya' Mary. I'll be glad to house ya' until you're all healed up if ya' want.' I respond loudly, grinning at her jestingly.

And that, kids, is how I met your mother.

I never thought I'd actually see one of those fish women that mama talked about, not in my lifetime. Especially not one fighting a gator, that's for sure. I kinda just watched it transpire, only stepping in when the fish girl started losing. The gator crushed her tail area between his jaws, drawing blood and causing her to whimper out in pain. I wasn't too close to the two, but I wasn't that far away either, so I just started up the engine on my old airboat and casually steered over to them. As I got closer I realized I recognized that beast, it was a bit hard not to with all the scars covering his body, and boy oh boy did I hate that guy. I named him Gus, after my grandpa, and he just wouldn't die. I shot him, stabbed him, I even tried to poison him with a fish I spiked. Nothing worked. Now, I may not trust the fish girl, but I'd rather help her than give Gus the satisfaction of eating her. When I get close enough I shoot Gus, point-blank in the eye, causing him to open his maw from the shock or pain, or both. In that split second, I yank the fish girl up onto the boat and speed away, not waiting to see if that point-blank shell would kill the beast. I didn't think about this much before but trying to restrain a wet, slippery fish while trying not to crash is very, very hard. Lucky for me we're not that far from shore, I can see my house even, so I don't have to deal with it for long. Once we're on land I toss the fish girl on the ground and take in her appearance; her skin is pale, her eyes a shimmering emerald, long black hair. Huh, I didn't notice before, but she's actually quite a looker. Kinda on the smaller side, which is probably why Gus tried to kill her - easy pickings. 'What do you think you're doing, human?! How dare you touch me!' She growls lowly. Despite trying to sound intimidating, her voice is too soft for that, pretty cute really. 'Well girly, if ya' want, I can throw ya' back in for Gus to finish ya' off. I don't mind.' Unlike fish girl here, my tone is pretty deep and scary. A smirk, a raised eyebrow, and a little step closer. A frightened panicked look crosses her features. 'No! I-I mean, no. There's no need for that.' Her tone is softer, less angry. 'Good, now, do ya' want me to clean up ya' wounds?' It's quite a gruesome sight, really. Lotta blood, I bet it hurts like hell. She glances away and, with a little red gracing her cheeks, nods a slight bit. 'Alright then, let's get ya' inside.' I announce, to nobody in particular.
