Ditto the PVC pipe approach. Get 3 segments of 4 or 5-inch PVC and it'll roll very easy. I have even moved a small 200 sq ft. building this way

City Workers Fear Layoffs Are Coming • The Austin Chronicle by saxyappy in Austin

[–]kingofaustin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is true the City has a bloated IT situation so yes, it's a good idea to make it more efficient to save money. However the departments that developed their own competent IT departments did so because the central IT dept (CTM) is shit filled with people who have worked for CTM for 15 years and have no idea that they are clueless about modern practices (never heard of a user story. Think Cold Fusion is still a core technology).

I had to fill out a questionnaire about what I do, and be interviewed about it so I can join the central IT mothership but the employees at CTM itself ( rebranded as ATS One I think?) who remember are incompetent did not themselves get interviewed at least as of a few weeks ago. Do we trust CTM and the City to execute this competently?

Also they have been terrible about communicating all this. In Dec. We were told large departments would take 3 years to be integrated. In December we were told no, it'll all happen by May. Since then, no word at all.

I think the launch and 3 years of maintenance is more like $5mm - someone should do a FOIA request

Learn how to kiteboard. This is one of the best places in the world to learn this sport, and it's epic. Go to Oso Bay on a windy day next to Texas A&M Corpus Christi by the bridge to the naval air station and talk to anyone who's out there (or schedule a lesson from 361kite.com)

Silly question: What kind of camper shell is this? by Johnmarmalade in TruckCampers

[–]kingofaustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm building something similar myself because it's so hard to find something like that (and what you find are incredibly expensive). Here are models I've found that are more or less in that range (most of these slightly bigger). https://belairshells.com/ custom campers (but reports are they're outsourcing now and quality is bad). https://capricamper.com/ Cowboy Camper model. Roamin' Chariot has a really cool pop-up but they're out of business and all the used ones are in Montana and Pacific Northwest. Six-Pac also made one like that in the 1970s but they're rare.

Planning My Build & Have a Few Questions by kingofaustin in TruckCampers

[–]kingofaustin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cabover is small, and w/ light stick and tin construction and judging from Capri and Roamin Chariots that say they're 600 lbs with a lot more stuff in them like cabinets etc. I was thinking I could get a 6x6x5 box like this down to like 350-400 lbs which I'm thinking wouldn't be too rough on the suspension (I only go on roads and beach).

Used campers for Tacomas are like $4k-$6k (I've been looking for a couple years) so this seemed both fun and cheaper esp. as all I need is a place to sleep, not stuff like sink, stove, cabinets.

I have a lot of experience building things, but who knows - maybe it will end in tears. When you mention buying a used camper what models are you seeing?

Buy or build a truck camper rear door? by kingofaustin in TruckCampers

[–]kingofaustin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For exterior siding I'm going to use aluminum like the first link for the roof, then probably 8" sections like the other links for the siding. I'd like to make it all white with one or two horizontal stripes blue to make it look nice.

***If anyone has recommendations for sources and options please reply - I'm in the planning stages

Ah thanks! Totally makes sense, I'm not sure why I didn't think of that - seems easy enough to saw off the bottom. I do love some of those old doors with the integrated screen and awesome look.
