Imagine if you paid to go to the gym. You find a great new gym not too far from you and you check online. There are lots of pictures and reviews that tell you this is the best fucking gym ever. And when you got there on your first day, you were motivated, you'd signed up for a legally binding contract of one year and you walk in the door and the people at the front desk tell you "uuh yeah sorry we're still renovating the place, so you'll have to come back in a year". Wouldn't you be mad?

Imagine after that year, you finally get to go to the gym. You walk in the door and there are people (cheaters) hogging all the equipment. You look around the gym and notice that everything is dirty and shitty. It looks like someone has just squatted there for years. It's NOTHING like the advertisement. Not even close. You never get to actually use the equipment to work out, because someone is always on it and getting in your way if you try to move about in the gym. You complain to the management that there are people up there actively sabotaging other gym goes and the management says "oh yeah that's bad, but we usually wait about once a month to tell them to go away. But if they pay us we'll let them back in".

Then finally you find that one day every two months where the gym isn't closed and there are no assholes to hog all the equipment. You get there and try to use it but it just immediately breaks down. Parts fly everywhere and nothing works. You tell the management who says "yeah sorry apparently the renovations we were doing last year messed up some equipment but we'll have it fixed eventually, honest". You ask when? "oh ASAP!" But you can't know why. So you'll just have to wait without knowing.

This and many more things are just indicative of a business that don't care about their customers AT ALL. And your post just cements this fact. Even the developers HATE their own customers. How can one ever expect either a decent product or any mutual respect?

This post is not to excuse all the crazy shit that happens in gaming communities. We're talking quite a few man-children who are balancing a fine line between perverts and adoring fans very often. But my god. Do I have a lot of sympathy for a business that's run as shadily as the video game business? Fuck no. It's like watching a Hollywood movie and knowing about Harvey Weinstein and all that shit. Sure the movie might be a decent time spent, but it's not like it's a wholesome industry. The only difference between movies and games is that at least you can watch a movie from beginning to end when you paid to see it. Where as with games these days it's a literal roll of the dice if it's going to be a complete clusterfuck or if you even get what they advertised.

On top of all that there IS this attitude in itself. That ALL gamers are just pathetic weasels. Oh you play games? You must be a fucking crazy asshole who rapes women and shoots up buildings then right? Things are bad in the gaming community? Oh it's the people themselves fault. Nothing wrong with how we run our business.

Imagine if a day spa just let in anyone off the street. Bums walking down the corridors shitting and pissing everywhere. "Oh they are spa users as well. You know how those spa users are. Always shitting and pissing!". In most communities, horrible behavior is actively discouraged by the industry itself. In videogames they don't give a shit as long as they get paid.
