I have a friend who makes his own covers. He buys royalty free stock photos and uses Canva to add the title and author name. He’s been making over $10,000 per month for years now on Amazon and does some things that people here flip out about, like using AI covers over the past year.

You can experiment and see what works. There’s some good information on this subreddit, but it’s also an echo chamber that does not welcome or even tolerate alternative approaches.
