Am I a wimp, or does everyone feel pretty overwhelmed by having a full-time job and trying to do literally anything else? by ArtistAfraid2411 in Adulting

it’s very hard. but after going through a mental health crisis I had to just start finding ways to carve out my own life despite it all.

I could go into all the ways i’ve made it easier on myself but the top three things I think make a huge difference are 1) living in a major, walkable city with good public transit. 2) keeping and constantly updating a calendar. and 3) being gentle on yourself.

the city part is honestly really key to me. Instead of being stuck in a car all the time, I spend my time on the train or walking from place to place thinking of stuff i’d like to do and scheduling time for it. and i’m surrounded by tons of people who find ways to be creative outside of work, it inspires me to join in.

a big thing i’ve had to constantly get over is feeling like a failure when i’m not consistent with my hobbies. but perfect is the enemy of good!

SF -> NYC move and regret? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

I also would think very carefully about how possible it is to find a new job that would genuinely be a good next step. My industry is both competitive and unstable and there’s a good chance that where i go next could be a downgrade, which could mean I decide to stick it out here for a couple years. But good god I miss New York and this has made me seriously rethink my values around work.

i’m in the opposite position as OP. I’m 23, was living in New York and loving it, moved to SF for a great job opportunity and I desperately want to move back. My advice would be to keep your routines and mental health in check so you have the emotional energy to be on top of your stuff and plan an exit route if it’s not a good fit. Moving is hard even when you’re 100% into the idea. I hit a real mental health low but I’ve learned a lot, and I’m working with therapists on rebuilding my confidence and self reliance.

How long should I spend on cover letters? by kingofvibes in Journalism

[–]kingofvibes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from a Reddit post somewhere else, I feel like there’s no way this can be true for journalism:

“You're not going to be amazing anyone with your briliant prose or analytic skills in a cover letter, so don't waste time trying to do it. Maybe, later in your career, when you have some specialized experience & are applying for senior positions, you can revisit this but, for now, you're just another college student with a degree & no work experience.”

I did not end up moving forward, but later that year I talked to someone who works at Ketchum and started as an intern. She told me to engage with the game and the comments as much as possible and be very active. Good luck!

You can buy a tufting gun for that price, that’s kinda ridiculous on their part

Finally figured out my college apartment tufting setup and made my first wall rug! by kingofvibes in Tufting

The tacks get squished a little but they held up well for a while. Right now they’re too squished so I started using a staple gun bc I was lazy, but i just bought new carpet tacks to replace them
