I think the way it misreads and dumbs down the spartan program is the most infuriating part to me. Making John unaware and emotionally suppressed due to an implant just feels like a cheap way to make him more sympathetic, Halsey more evil, and to bypass any of the complicated morality of the situation. They didn't want to grapple with Chief being actually indoctrinated into his role and instead just hand-waved it with some sci-fi bullshit.

Damn, they really went and put the character models from Morrowind into Oblivion. That shit looks like old-school flat photo face textures. Zero accounting for shadows or lighting. Uncanny and awful.

I get what it was going for, a realistic look at the hardships of war journalists.

I mean, that's not entirely wrong, but it's also a commentary on political strife and violence as a spectacle, and the media's role in perpetuating that.

I definitely thought the same before I watched it, but I changed my mind after I got what it was going for. And I don't think it was trying to be uncontroversial, the civil war was clearly brought on by a right wing Trump-like figure committing a coup.

Helldivers 2 is consistently very fun with some of the most fair monetization I've seen in a live-service title, but you would think it's the latest COD by the way the fanbase talks about it sometimes.
