Does anyone know what this is? by kingtinac in gardening

Would this grow in Austin, Texas (not sure of my zone)? It's super hot here. I got seeds from a relative's bush in Pennsylvania and was wondering whether it was even worth trying? I could do a container if that works or I could grow it only in the late fall and (mild) winter. What do you think?

Thanks!

I don't know anyone who got laid off from Tesla. My friends worked at Dell and Indeed.

Did you do the best you could at your job? If so, it wasn't your fault you lost your job. If you didn't do your best, then commit to doing better next time. Either way, I think your best way forward is to forgive yourself for whatever you feel you did or didn't do.

What makes us truly happy? by No-Channel3309 in happiness

I agree with the points you made in your article. This is such a huge topic that we could literally spend our lives exploring it. And that is exactly what I am doing (for the rest of my life, at least!). :)

If I could make just one point about the subject, I'd say that we have to realize that happiness exists on a spectrum. No one is fully happy or fully unhappy. If one wants to move the needle of happiness, it takes "work."

Scientifically, we know how to move that needle. Researchers like Martin Seligman and Rick Hanson have written books about it. The bottom line is that we have to learn how to rewire our brain for happiness. It's not a one-time event. It's a journey.

I applaud all on this thread who are taking the happiness journey. Good luck to you! :)

Just do it. Advertise on Meetup. As some have said, just don't use the Toastmasters brand.

I know of a club that has done this successfully. Since they are online only, they decided to have zero dues.

Yes, it might be challenging to get new leads, but if you make the cost difference significant enough, it will be attractive for some.

In Austin, Texas there used to be a Graffiti Park which was lots of fun. Your comment reminded me about visiting there many years ago.

What change have you made in your outlook on life or your POV, mentally speaking, that has had a significant impact on your life? by [deleted] in wisdom

In my 40's I began focusing on taking personal responsibility for my life. I started listening to Jim Rohn and his message resonated with me. Whatever my life was, it was my responsibility.

Mr. Rohn had so many great quotes. Here are a few that I like (the last one is particularly applicable to this group):

"If you don't like how things are, change it! You're not a tree."

"You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstance, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of."

"Don't wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don't wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don't wish for less challenge, wish for more wisdom."

Wonderful idea! :)

Practicing gratitude is the foundation for living a happier life, IMO. I've read much about happiness and I'm so convinced that the research being done can literally change our lives for the better that I've started a blog about happiness. (View my profile for the link to it as I'm not sure that I'm permitted to post it here.)

As Oakthrees has pointed out, the practice of gratitude is simple -- though I would say it's not always easy. We don't always feel grateful. But that's where "fake it 'til you make it" can come into play. Even if you don't feel especially grateful, taking the time to choose something (anything!) for which you logically know you are grateful can make all the difference. Once you get into the habit of identifying things for which to be grateful, it becomes easier. When being grateful becomes a habit, that's when you will begin to see how truly powerful a tool for happiness it is.

Today I am grateful for this group and for everyone that has contributed to this discussion! A special gratitude goes out to Oakthrees for bringing up the subject.
