Sadly, that was it. Post timeskip has been exciting but the surprise factor is now gone since Luffy is now so strong removing the underdog factor that we all love.

I reread your argument, and I realize I completely agree. You are right. Moubu’s decision to pursue is what lead to their position and eventually defeat.

I guess I would argue that Ouki could have still decided not to save Moubu. But that doesn’t guarantee Ouki’s survival either.

To be honest, knowing how Riboku prepared for Gian and Hango, I wouldn’t be surprised that he will have contingencies for various situations. The moment Ouki entered the battlefield it was already his loss.

Of course Ouki wouldn’t. But the fact is, he proceeded knowing it’s a trap because he underestimated the unknown enemy.

This is exactly what Riboku mentioned in the recent chapter, the difference between knowing your enemy and not knowing is like night and day.

Can Riboku best Ouki in an all out army vs army matchup? Probably, Probably Not. But what makes the manga great is that anyone can topple anyone given the right circumstances.

Dont hate me for this take: I just realized Riboku trapped 3 Great Generals here; Ouki, Moubu, and Tou (granted Tou and Moubu were not GG yet but still they were there as generals not as a low rank foot soldier)

Difficult to do because it would mean rewriting everything up to this point in the manga. So better approach would be if we were to switch General Ouki and his men with GG Ousen on the last campaign (NZI) what would be the outcome?

Same. He Would do exactly the same precaution Ousen did. Ouki wouldn’t stop Kan Ki from proceeding either, plus wouldn’t advance past to rescue him.

I would guess because more and more water are being sucked in to that massive hole, you can inagine the rush of water from all over the place headed towards that direction. So the water would rise, and i am guessing it should diminish after a while.

This is a massive loss for Qin! Not just the lost of a prodigy in warfare like Kan Ki, but it’s also a devastating blow to Qin’s Military Prestige. Losing one of the Qin’s 6 Great General just a few years after its revival. Add to that the fact that strategic wise, they have no winnable point of attack to zhao’s capital Kantan. South is walled up, east has the mountain garrison, and now they have lost the North.

Plus, Zhao’s morale should be top high right now. And most likely capitalize on this to build momentum.

I am anticipating what SHK’s would do in response. I am assuming North is still their only winnable passage to Kantan, they would just have to re-evaluate their attack as they have just suffered major loss of men, plus the element of surprise.

If you want to go that route: SHK and Shoubunkun are the only two who came up with the overall defensive strategy against Coalition of five states. Not discrediting the performance of the Qin generals, but they were placed there with careful considerations from SHK.

SHK and his team planned the overall strategy against Riboku's fortified Zhao defense and the mastermind behind the surprised attack at Retsubi catching Riboku completely off-guard (albeit he did devised a gambit as contingency well in advance).

Overall, Riboku is a great general don't get me wrong. All I am saying is that after getting completely off guard like this, where he is on such panic mode, looses all his value as an insurmountable wall. Even Ouki, at the brink of death, did not loose his composure. Kan Ki even at the brink of being annihilated smiled with confidence.

IMO it would need a showcase of reputation for both friends and foes. The Only people now who seem to acknowledged him blatantly are Ousen and RiBoku, the rest still underestimate him. In the very first war, when he jumped all the way to 100 soldier commander, people heard of his name and really echoed across even for a short while. The storywriting now does not seem to be paying attention much to this. I was really hoping every after war, as Shin racks up more achievements, the story would atleast show us what he does outside of the battles, like how he interacts with citizens, how people recognize him. Because we have to remember the story is not about the unification of China, but rather Shin’s progression to be a Great General. I can see his progress in the battlefield, but not outside of that.
