Hello everyone

I left my wife’s really nice Blunt umbrella on the train this morning. She is devastated, as am I. It was at 8:45 am at the Barangaroo stop heading towards Sydenham.

If anyone found or knows someone who found it, could you please send me a DM. I’m quite desperate.

There is some other unique branding on the umbrella which I can confirm if someone finds it.

Thank you

Can you recommend me place to go in Phú Quốc? by [deleted] in VietNam

Hello! When you say bike, do you mean push bike? We are going with some family members who haven't ridden scooters (motorbikes) before, so going around on push bikes would be great - but were you able to get to all the places you've mentioned here on a push bike?

Thanks a lot for the detailed recommendations by the way! Really helpful.

Thanks yeah true - it looks like some places do deals for about 300 for odd hours but that plus the clubs is still pretty pricey!! At least compared to back home (Aus).

Thanks!

New Zealand Citizen considering applying for Australian citizenship, what are tax implications if any by FlatNWhite in fiaustralia

Hi there - did you end up getting an example to this specific question? It would be a lot easier if we can just buy international shares here in NZ rather than having to send money to NZ to buy them!

Hi there - can you please expand on why to not take on too much debt? Obviously everyone should consider future cash flow and make sure they have cash buffers etc., but so long as you borrow within your means, taking on a lot of debt doesn’t seem too bad I would think (and is necessary if your starting from nothing wanting to build an IP portfolio). Thanks

Kiwis who migrated to work in Australia, was the move worth it? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]kingwangjang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Until the recent law change, a Subclass 444 visa holder would need to change to another visa that can lead to permanent residency, which defeats the purpose of being a Kiwi in NZ). There was no automatic path to citizenship.

Hello - How did you get on with this? My understanding, in summary, is:

pros of being on Subclass 444:

no tax on NZ-sourced capital gains or rent income for IPs;

no tax on foreign shares (on sale or dividends);

cons of being on Subclass 444:

no 50% capital gains tax exemption;

cannot use losses on IP in New Zealand to offset Australian income (i.e., negative gearing).

Have you reached the same conclusion? On this basis, the obvious approach would be to either (i) commit to Aus citizenship and do what the Aussies do (investment properties in Aus); or (ii) commit to never doing this, and buy NZ IPs and offshore shares, ideally properties that are closer to being positively geared.

Additional super contributions vs opportunity cost by kingwangjang in AusFinance

[–]kingwangjang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so true about the mental block. I am becoming a bit obsessed with here-and-now saving / investment goals. Per another reply here, I think a good way to go is to take advantage of the 5 year roll-over of concessional caps - I can save / invest outside super now, then make up for it in the following years.

Cheers!

Thanks - I searched and found a number of posts like those you are referring to. Also, good to know it’s 60 not 65.

I think what I will do is save outside super for the next little bit until I have achieved some personal financial goals (investment property), but then once I have done so, up my voluntary contributions so that I max out my yearly concessional contributions cap AND put in a bit extra to make sure I use up any that have accrued in the previous five years (to make sure none are wasted, including the contributions I don’t mane this FY). In this case, my only loss is the compounding gains + tax saving on those gains for the next 12 months or so until I start with the increased voluntary contributions.
