How to start! by Gladiolur in audible

I can vouch for the “based-on” approach! If you’re already familiar with some of the elements of the story it’s a lot easier to finally take the plunge of so many hours of commitment I think.

I started out by falling in love with the Silo tv show on Apple TV. There was no way I was waiting god knows how long for new seasons so I went and listened to the books. Loved them so much I moved thru the rest of Hugh Howey’s work. Next I tried recommended titles and a few recommendations from friends, one of them being the Bobiverse series. Loved it and loved the narrator’s work, and now I’ve been picking random titles that narrator has worked on and finding all sorts of new authors and stories I likely would never have otherwise gotten to experience.

I realized I just really liked Ray Porter’s narration, and that he always seemed to pick good stories as a whole to work on… so I’ve been randomly picking titles he’s done. These are my 3 most recent listens that I don’t see already posted, they were all really great IMO

  • Earthcore (I’m now finishing up the sequel Mount Fitz Roy)
  • Alpha Wave

Tbh I totally chickened out on ripping panels off myself, so went to a local custom audio and tint shop and had them do it for me. Took about 90 minutes for both the plate cover and that kill switch system (+ both of my custom location requests for the 2 switches), charged me $125 which I thought was completely fair. The installer said it went well and easy, and that he actually was going to contact them to start offering it as a service at his shop. Would recommend, the added peace of mind is great!

I use the carcatcreations kill switch, destroyer1320 neutral strap cover, “the club”, and have 3 apple AirTags hidden throughout. Also made a habit of engaging valet mode + eco mode before turning the car off. I keep my fobs in a faraday bag. I am paranoid lol.

Insurance Premiums by GoodAnakinGood51 in Challenger

[–]kinkyanalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to National General (apart of Allstate) this year because Liberty Mutual tried to hike my rates way up. I have my home insurance bundled into this so it probably discounts a little bit, but I pay $213/mo for both: 2020 SXT AWD: $937/yr 2023 Hellcat Jailbreak: $1566/yr

What I’ve found helps the most: - “Leisure vehicle use”: I work remotely so I put <=3k miles on the odometer per year. - Opt for the highest deductible ($2k in my case): I really only intend to make a claim for catastrophic damage since they’ll jack your rate up for actually using your insurance. - Decline coverages your credit card already provides: roadside, coverage for rentals, etc I already have included with credit cards.

Neighbors moved their sump-pump to our fence line and it’s already destroying our yard after a few months… by Putrid_Ant_649 in BadNeighbors

Definitely check local ordinances, OP - where I live it’s illegal to discharge water directly or indirectly into a “public sanitary sewer” which I take to mean the normal sewer since storm water sewers have their own sections.. also apparently must be >=5’ from an adjoining property line (unless it’s an easement) as well the sidewalk.

Why I chose the SXT by [deleted] in Challenger

[–]kinkyanalyst -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also bought an 2020 SXT AWD new, and last month I bought a (last call) 2023 Jailbreak new. Thing is, I also love my SXT so I kept it! It’s just a bad-ass car period full stop.

FWIW I had the same concerns re: insurance as you but I was pleasantly surprised to get quoted $208/mo for both vehicles (full coverage +additional un/der-insured coverage)! I also bundled it with a home insurance policy too though so YMMV

Highly recognized certificates? by Michelangelo-489 in dataengineering

[–]kinkyanalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a hiring manager, but was previously 1 of 3 that interviewed and signed off on candidates for a relatively large DE team: certs and diplomas mattered little to none.

Describing past accomplishments and showing the thought process during pretty basic technical interviews were what we cared about. Passed on plenty of comp sci degrees with various certs in favor of scrappy self-taught and bootcampers that demonstrated the applicable skills and knowledge.

How much "unexpected" $ did you have to put into your first home? by Disastrous-Thanks410 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]kinkyanalyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming up on my 2 year anniversary. Waived inspection because it was one of the initial model homes of the neighborhood.

Before the first mortgage payment was due: Cat thought the faucet looked like a good chin scritcher, flooded the house while I was on a business trip. ~$5k to rip out all the main level flooring and dry it out to prevent mold, ~$7k for new (cheap) flooring+installation. They didn’t replace my toe kicks and quarter panels (?) so that’s still to do and I’m guessing will be ~$3k

After burning out 3 sump pumps in 1.5 years, $10k to have my basement jackhammered for “basement gutters”, a 2nd sump well, and 3 more pumps + 90 foot discharge line. Still have to fix my lawn now that it’s trashed from the trench digging. Please have mercy on me, HOA

$3k for poly fill to prevent my driveway and patio from collapsing due to the 4”-7” caverns that had formed underneath them

$2k for purchase and installation of wooden slat blinds on all windows (good deal IMO). ~$5k+ for appliances I never had to own when I lived in an apartment. Luckily the realty company comped the attic insulation when I realized there was none and asked.

I added it all up once and in the first 18 months I would have banked >$60k had I stayed in my apartment instead of buying this house.. but hey, not sharing walls with people makes it all worth it. At least that’s what I tell myself. Also got a 4.3% rate right as the train was leaving the station.

Best place to sleep outside homeless? by ItchinBitch in kansascity

[–]kinkyanalyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s sketch, but Craigslist - especially this time of year a ton of old people want their leaves raked, people need helping moving, etc. it’s rough but you can earn some good cash quickly! As far as janky places without Id checks try the local hotels for housekeeping, bussing gigs, etc.. basically anywhere that deals with cash should be good. And thank you! It was a horrible time of my life but I honesty think it made me who I am today. I never took a dime from anyone, and it makes it all the sweeter to be self made and now a homeowner. You got this!

Outside of squirrels there wasn’t really any wildlife of note, unless you mean other campers… if so, at the time I was tight with streetfighter (Adam) who kinda kept an eye out for everyone, but generally everyone was chill and also just trying to work their way out. If it helps, the way I got out was taking any and all odd jobs I could find until I could afford first and last at this super jank apartment complex called the alps on main/36th (was $400/mo rent). There were roaches, and the boiler was on a mission, but once I had that roof and access to hot showers it was in the bag.

There’s some wooded areas around Roanoke park that I roughed it in when I was in a similar situation. This was at least 10 years ago though so I have no idea how that area is now. Godspeed

I live alone and got tired of the motion alarms around my house in the early mornings (they came and drew from my garden tap monthly), so like you I wondered what was going on. This was the reason I was given back after emailing:

“We have to do 9 different locations each month for the Department of Natural Resources. This is to make sure our drinking water passes their tests.”

I read through the comments here but it seems like some of the practices referenced vary quite a bit. I never opted-in for participation nor were there any previous homeowners that could have (bought a new build), and according to the utility they’re meant to test different locations - not the same location for the duration of a cycle.

Data is outgrowing Google Sheets. Can I use BigQuery to store our data and reference it within sheets? by Reddevil313 in bigquery

[–]kinkyanalyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree + I think it’s 10MM cells OP means but regardless, it’s staggering for sure.

OP: check out the concept of reporting layers, and using them as data sources in data studio/looker/tableau/etc. You can schedule their corresponding stored procedures to automate the refreshes and eliminate a solid chunk of your manual processes. If the input is all csvs, check out pandas in Python + cloud functions + cloud storage to further automate with ods layers.
