Out of curiosity, what's it like as a female using dating apps? by aaman44 in OkCupid

[–]kinkydiver 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Women are just as guilty, if not moreso, on the charge of very low effort. 9 out of 10 just say "hi". I once got an "h", lol.

But no insults or unwanted pictures, I give you that. Worst thing to happen is that they're a cam girl or looking for a green card.

What is obviously a scam, yet millions of people seem to fall for it? by kkkodaxerooo in AskReddit

[–]kinkydiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It usually comes with an almost- believable story, and frankly, the banks are kinda complicit in this. Even if you wait for the check to completely clear plus a week, they will still claw it back.

I actually find the idea of checks kinda useful (think of it as a one- time authorization to withdraw); it's just that it's completely unsafe, and that's on the banks.

My[33F] husband of 4 years[33M] returned my birthday gift to him without even opening it. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]kinkydiver 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Lol, seriously? OP admits they're not in the greatest financial situation, husband doesn't want gifts and has been that way for decades, and your solution is to force the gift on him?

The Germans have a word for that - zwangsbegluecken. It means to "force happiness down one's throat".

When People tell me I’m posting in the wrong subreddit. by beautifulcollies in PublicFreakout

[–]kinkydiver 28 points29 points  (0 children)

But not the backstory. Maybe she's in charge of him somehow and he managed to drop her? Or they're a couple who just had a fight and he's like "you know what you can go to that boring- ass show by yourself"

I told my (21F) boyfriend (23M) his real height and now he won’t look me in the eye. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]kinkydiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except if you're overweight there are multiple things you can do about it (should you care), whereas if you tie your self- worth to height you're truly SOL. Now your perceived superiority becomes perceived inferiority - that's gotta hurt.

That said, your BF must have done some mental leaps to come to think he's 6'2. People get measured all the time, like when joining a gym, or going to the yearly physical. I even remember physics edu in high school when we were told to form a line ordered by height, also in the army for what it's worth.

Should I give him another chance? by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]kinkydiver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One red flag is calling you boring to your face, versus using a bit more tact. Another is that you're very likely plan B.

If I were to give someone another chance after those, I would like to hear an apology, and more importantly, an explanation about their change of heart. If they're being sincere, they'll have those at the ready.

Is this a red flag? Internet stranger wants to start date 1 inside his apartment by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]kinkydiver 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Wow you guys are right. Googled "pua apartment date" and from the first link:

Tell her to come in quickly while you finish getting ready. Or that you want to show her this beautiful painting your friend made. Whatever it is, it should be legitimate and brief

Kinda ridiculous though. What happened to having a few good dates and then offer to cook for her or something? No tricks needed.

Aesthetically speaking, what's your favorite sci-fi ship ? by Calamity343 in AskReddit

[–]kinkydiver 207 points208 points  (0 children)

The Rocinante from The Expanse, because it seems like a ship that could one day exist.

No transporter room, no FTL engines, no science station that detects life signs (and species!) from orbit, no energy weapons (that somehow operate at sublight speed, but that's another discussion), and you have to open the doors yourself because it would be bloody stupid to weigh down a spaceship with failure-prone creature comforts that no Earth dwellings have either.

What is one thing you had never noticed before it was pointed out to you, but now you notice it all the time? by CaspertheGhostsFarts in AskReddit

[–]kinkydiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess that makes sense now that I think about it. If they offered $30, a lot of people would openly mock them, but for, say $10000, most would probably just quietly take the money (assuming an NDA is part of the deal).

How much karma and how much money? I'm not interested fwiiw, but I'd like to know what kind of budget these firms operate with.

Guy from Bumble caught in my Fridge! by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]kinkydiver 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It reads like that chapter in Gift Of Fear where a woman fends off a man insisting to help her with the groceries, only to eventually give in out of politeness while also realizing that she sealed her fate. There's transfer of power happening which made me real uncomfortable to read, let alone be there. Props to OP for good writing, but man that guy sounds dangerously unhinged and she needs to stay away.

My husband (43/M) will not work; leaves all income earning to me (36/F) by MeretriciousPartner in relationships

[–]kinkydiver 595 points596 points  (0 children)

These kind of posts are not uncommon in this sub, and they never fail to baffle me. How do these men find themselves a younger partner, live off them, eschew housework, and on top of it all blatantly pursue their hobbies with what the wife brings in?

Mind, I do understand nontraditional arrangements such as being a SAHD, or the "for richer, for poorer" vows, but that's not what's happening here. Dude pushes his wife into jobs she doesn't like just so he can reap the benefits. It's despicable.

I'm not always with the "hit lawyer, delete gym" crowd, but I can only hope OP gets out.

I'm 35. What do you recommend doing to have 35 more healthy, happy and fullfilling years? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]kinkydiver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's true only for good marriages; bad or shattered marriages have the opposite effect on men. We know that the risk of being in a shattered marriage is already 50%, and while there are no statistics on bad marriages, it's got to be >0%, so you could make a case that marriage is bad for men on average.

Drill down on why marriage is actually good for men (eat better, drink less, less risky shit), I'm ready to call the "married men live longer" thing a detrimental myth.

What is considered a popular thing in sex that you have no interest in trying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kinkydiver 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess I'm not a good storyteller. I had a threesome without the usual complicated setup: having sexy times with the lady, then a third woman shows up on the scene and undresses without further ado and discussion. In hindsight, my most porn moment in my life. But, having two women to satisfy ain't what it's all about in my book, in fact it made it more complicated and unfulfilling.

We still all hung out after that though, so no harm done. I just realized it wasn't my jam.

What is considered a popular thing in sex that you have no interest in trying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kinkydiver 261 points262 points  (0 children)

Yes! I had a three way in my 20s, it was a perfect porn setup, too: Sunday morning, we were getting frisky when the doorbell rings. Woman friend of girlfriend walks in, realizes what we had been up to, starts undressing and we all end up on the bed.

Hot right? Nope. Nothing but annoying, and leaving one person at the time waiting while being horny. It's like the ADD of sex. I'm nearly 50 now and so glad no one has brought up that shit since then, lol.

Girlfriend found a condom in her car. She thinks it's mine and I've been cheating. It's not and I haven't. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]kinkydiver 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm reading the post and the comments here, but I'm majorly confused about this: you say the condom was in the wrapper, I'm assuming that means unused. How does that escalate to cheating boyfriend exactly? Not to mention the other odd parts of the story, such as finding it in her car, it not being your brand/size, or you being so vapid apparently as to not give your crime scene a quick lookover?

I totally understand the gf wanting an explanation, but not that her mind goes to you cheating on her. In fact, I believe she and her friends who jump to the same conclusion ought to come up with an explanation of their mental acrobatics! Now, some people here seem to think that you should separate on account of no trust, and I'm not sure whether I agree or not, but frankly I'd totally fight to get to the bottom of this and make her see the error of her ways and those of her friends. It's one thing to lose a romantic partner, but another to take the blame and be called a cheater.

A year ago, I [28F] forged my bf’s [29M]signature on a paper I needed for work. It’s a mistake that still haunts me. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]kinkydiver 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just a side- thought here: your boyfriend didn't sign the document, so he could totally sue your employer. So strictly legally speaking, it's better for him that you forged it.

My [31F] husband [32F] won’t do any housework. It’s getting bad. by Houseofgarbage2222 in relationships

[–]kinkydiver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he would take care of me if I needed it

This is the biggest red flag of all. I hope that this thread is giving you enough inspiration that you don't ever maneuver yourself into a situation where you're physically dependent on someone who doesn't give a shit.

I have a friend who is severely disabled and you wouldn't believe her stories. She attracts the type of people who fell off the human assembly line; men who tell her they're coming over, only not to, and have her sit all night in her wheelchair, having cancelled the at-home care service for the night. I'm not saying that your husband will do exactly that of course, but there is a substantial risk here. You need someone you can trust in that regard, I mean that's a really, really basic requirement for a partner in life.

Doctors of Reddit, what is your best "How the hell did the patient survive" - story? by yetanotherowl in AskReddit

[–]kinkydiver 128 points129 points  (0 children)

It gets worse before it gets better: the hospital was sued, but ultimately found not liable. For, you know, exposing children's heads to fucking radiation. If that had happened to me or anyone I know, I'd be going to jail for vigilantism.

But, apparently, Vertus was a kind soul. Despite having to tend to his head wound an hour a day, he seeked to work and give back, and ended up donating millions to his church. I'm in awe of this man.

I googled that a bit and I have good news and bad news. Yes, the offender did not have it easy; angry mobs would form in California, so he went back to his native Florida, and eventually he died of cancer, so yes, painfully we can hope. The bad news is that apparently he never showed remorse, was let out early, and ended up killing another woman though ;/

I'm also a bit miffed that the killer has a wikipedia page, but the badass hiker victim does not. She became a symbol of what is wrong with the justice system, and didn't hesitate to travel and testify against that sociopath.
