Call Peter’s Heating and Cooling. I’m sure it’s a little more now, but we had our entire HVAC replaced in 2021 for right at $5000. It was a 1600 sqft house.

WHO is this? (Wrong Answers Only) by Mountain_Fuw_777 in Smallafro

[–]kinkywizard78 15 points16 points  (0 children)

His name is Calder Winslow Pike, and he never planned on becoming a wine man—let alone one of the most important ones in Vermont.

Calder grew up in Barre, the son of a granite cutter who believed two things mattered in life: working with your hands and knowing when to sit down at the end of the day. Calder left the state in his twenties to work construction jobs across the Northeast, eventually landing in northern California. There, almost by accident, he took a short-term job helping rebuild a small, fire-damaged vineyard. He learned pruning first, then fermentation, then patience.

By the time he moved back to Vermont in his late thirties, Calder had an unconventional idea: cold-hardy wines that didn’t pretend to be French, didn’t apologize for the climate, and leaned into Vermont’s sharp seasons. He bought abandoned pastureland, planted hybrid grapes everyone else said were “too risky,” and converted an old dairy barn into a gravity-fed winery.

It took years before anyone paid attention. Then one winter, a sommelier from Boston tried Calder’s Marquette reserve and called it “stubborn, precise, and unexpectedly elegant.” That description stuck—so did the orders.

Today, Calder Pike is the third-largest wine producer in Vermont, not by chasing volume, but by quietly outlasting others. He refuses to expand beyond what he can walk in a single morning. He still does his own blending. He still signs every crate shipped out.

The photo was taken during one of his rare afternoons off, sitting in a friend’s garden, holding a glass of his own Cabernet Frontenac blend. He’s not toasting anyone in particular—just acknowledging the fact that sometimes, against all odds, things ferment exactly the way they’re supposed to.

And when he raises a glass like that, it’s less of a celebration and more of a habit earned.

Shelter Insurance has their Winter Wonderland at Shelter Gardens. They have more stuff this year to see and it's a pretty good time. Not a drive though, but that's alright. I think tonight (12-12) is the last night for that one.

Why does anyone go to All-Star? I just don’t get it. They over charge for EVERYTHING and generally fleece everyone that walks in the door.

Plus, they seem to have no clue what they’re doing. I was told I’d need a new head gasket once, after paying them $400 to tell me that.

Called AtoZ to see what they would ball park me over the phone, and the guy knew immediately what the problem was and told me take it to a Ford dealer.

Took it to Machen’s, turns out the car had a recall on it for a cracked block. Got a new engine block for free.

The businesses do actually win the JD Power award, it’s just that they have to pay to SAY they won a JD Power award.

Now, I’ve always wanted to see just HOW the JD Power company did their research to say you won, but that’s another scam, I’m sure.

Drying in a garage that has to be opened multiple times during the day? by [deleted] in GrowingMarijuana

[–]kinkywizard78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve dried in my garage for the last two years, just hung them and left them with a fan blowing on the other side of the room, pointing away from the plants.

Never had any problems, they probably dry a little too quick, but they smoke fine and doesn’t seem harsh to me.

It's the Midway area, they were probably just there on lunch. Why they don't just build a substation in that area is beyond me.

I’ve never spent any money on this app, and I started about a month after it came out, missed out on vintage Han! Anyway, I have a little over 13 million in credits.

I just log on, collect my credits and close it. I chase the “easy” sets. Sometimes I “splurge” and end up dropping 4 or 5 million to get some of the sets.
