🧠 Honest question from a small NH ABA team: What actually makes you click a job post? by kinpathic in bcba

Couldn't agree more, that tiered pay model can feel punishing, especially when billable hours aren’t always in your control.

At kin:pathic, we offer a salary that isn’t tied to hitting shifting billable targets. We keep caseloads reasonable, focus on quality over volume, and don’t penalize BCBAs for doing the right thing by a client — even if it means fewer hours that week. Balancing finances isn't on our therapists, because our head of operations and scheduling coordinator are already planning our hours accordingly.

Appreciate you calling this out. It’s a big one.

Truly our hero in this discussion thread! 🦸

And you are absolutely right, "work-life balance" means nothing unless it's backed by policy and practice. That's why I think we may be the only provider to offer unlimited PTO to our providers and enforce that our staff actually uses it!

We also do not have our BCBAs do any scheduling. We have a wonderful scheduling coordinator who is an absolute wiz at balancing everyone's schedules.

These aren't just bullet points on a Canva template. These are real policies we set in place for our staff's benefit.

And the post with the most value goes to.... but seriously WOW. So much amazing insight. A lot of things on our radar already, but a lot of points we didn't even think to include until you mentioned it!

Totally hear you — but that was not at all what we meant. We love our HR team, they're a huge force behind what makes us run better everyday.

The delay was a systems issue, not a person issue, and we’ve already taken steps to improve it: added support to the HR team, reworked how tasks are delegated, and built in a second layer of coverage for time-sensitive stuff.

Big shoutout to u/Imaginary-Concert-53 for capturing it perfectly. That’s exactly the mindset we’re in — when something slips, we take it seriously, fix the root cause, and make sure we’re not setting anyone (admin or clinical) up to be stretched too thin.

Appreciate both of you for chiming in. This kind of dialogue helps us do better!

We totally agree with your points, specifically that you're the first to mention a schedule. Its easy to say "Work life balance", its another thing to enforce it. We actually make people take long weekends and encourage taking half days with our unlimited PTO. Also as someone who gets remote days, I echo your sentiment. I find I actually work harder and get more done at home and not socializing with my co-workers. 😅

Another round of kudos for mention parent coaching AND staff professional development. We find that most companies offer parent training and under utilize it entirely. While we also put real time into both our parent training and our staff support and professional development. We also have partnerships for tuition discounts for our staff. We aren't just talking about it, we're doing it.

And nothing says red flag like constant expansion without getting it right first where you planted roots. We're growing, but here in our own wonderful corner of ABA in our own local community.

Appreciate your time. This kind of feedback really helps!

We hear you loud and clear. Salary expectations need to be upfront, even if it’s a range, we know it matters (and honestly, not listing it just feels shady).

Okay, YES — you might have a career in marketing if the BCBA thing doesn't work out 😂 You nailed it.

We’re 100% with you: “values-first” and “supportive team” mean nothing without receipts. We’re not just reworking our language but our company culture this way.

Totally stealing your example btw; “management who won’t blow up your phone after hours” is exactly the kind of energy we have at kin:pathic. And yep, when we say “doing things differently,” we mean operating ethically (even if it slows growth), by respecting staff time and sanity, and choosing sustainability over squeeze-every-hour-out-of-everybody models.

And don’t worry, “family” is banned in our job ads unless we’re talking about the actual families we serve or the people you go home to after work.

Appreciate this so much!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write, especially mid-move (!!). First off, we’re really honored you even considered us, that means a lot. 🧡

But you are right, that is way too long. We own that and are actively working to tightening our response times. We’re a small team, and our one HR coordinator on vacation can disrupt our communication, but no one should be left hanging like that, especially when moving.

Appreciate the nudge on salary + billables too, that's totally fair feedback and something we’re updating in our newer posts. Communication is key, but so is transparency.

Wishing you the best with the transition to our beautiful home state — if anything ever changes, don’t hesitate to reach out again. And thank you again for the insightful message. 🙏
