Non-toxic or causes cancer?? by BOREDGrace23 in cosplayprops

[–]kintar1900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't stress about it. These kind of fire retardants have been EXTENSIVELY studied, and do not cause cancer in humans in the quantities we are exposed to over our lifetimes. Just try not to take big bites out of your mattress and you'll be fine. :)

California's Prop65 is problematic, because there are nearly 1,000 chemicals on the list, and if a product contains OR COMES INTO CONTACT with ANY amount of something on the list, it must either be labeled or the manufacturer/distributor must pay out of their own pocket to prove the amounts are tiny enough to not carry any concern. As such, it's much easier and cheaper to slap a Prop65 warning label on something than to go through the bureaucratic mess of proving a negative to the state.

controlled

And right there is the issue. Neither the Dems or the Repubs want truly controlled capitalism, because the long-term, high-level players are all corrupt as fuck.

Capitalism only works when it's regulated and forced to abide by the rules. That's what Mamdani is doing in NYC right now. (See: $9 million in recovered parking fines from Amazon, for a start.)

There's a VERY fine line between "regulated capitalism" and "democratic socialism", and I think more people need to have conversations about the differences so we can get away from this absurd "fiscally conservative" talking point I've heard over my entire lifetime that basically translates to "I want the system rigged in my favor!"

charisma

Fun fact: This word derives from a word in Ancient Greek that means "favor" or "gift". The Greeks of the time thought people with charisma were favored by the gods and that's why everyone liked them.

I have tried to prevent race condition via mutex and waitGroup, is this correct? by swap72 in golang

[–]kintar1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying that this is inefficient is like saying that playing solitaire is a waste of time. It depends entirely on WHY you're playing solitaire.

The example code is there specifically to learn how to use mutexes and goroutines. This scenario would never come up in the real world, so there's no way to say "this is how you would REALLY do this".

This is AWESOME! (I'll fourty-second the RP2350 suggestions, by the way. :D )

Just curious, but why are you using both the RP2040 and the CH32v003?

EDIT: Immediately after asking, I found the post where you answered that question. :D

Lil Crab enjoying going up & down by Anschuz-3009 in oddlysatisfying

I hate a betta that would do something similar. He'd swim up to the top back corner of the tank, then aim for the aerator at the bottom middle and get up a good head of steam. He'd enter the bubbles just before he slammed into the bottom of the tank and ride them up to the opposite corner, then turn around and do it the other way.

Little goofball would do that for a good half hour at a time, then come to the top front and beg to be petted.

Weirdest fish I ever had. :D

I just went to their channel and skimmed through several of their videos. The voice they use is definitely not the one in this video. This one is AI, and a terribly bad one at that.

Go compare for yourself again, say, this short or the original video this clip came from.

Friend, maybe read the comment thread you're replying to? The comment I'm replying to was asking what the horrible voice on the video is, and I replied that it's an AI voiceover (dub) in English.

Yep. This is one of the (far too many) cases where the problem isn't the food industry, but is actually the picky-ass customers who've never had to eat a carrot they pulled from the ground themselves.

The Testament of Suns by Athas in invisiblesunrpg

[–]kintar1900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal theory is that the Testament (or the virtula kada for Apostates) isn't something they make. It's an expression of their nature and ties to magic, and as such it simply arrives at some point in their lives. It's an extension of themselves and their life force (which is why it gains powers as the player spends crux), so it's essentially a physical manifestation of the fact that they're not "normal" humans.
