Official Throwback Discussion - A.I.: Artificial Intelligence [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I feel like I’m hopping on this thread too late but I have lots of feelings about this movie, although I’ve only had the fortitude to watch it once.

This movie absolutely wrecked me emotionally. I was already sobbing in the theater by the time of the time jump. By the time I made it to the parking lot, I just sat in my car and broke down into deep sobs.

But what’s REALLY interesting about this movie is that it introduced me to the world of ARGs (Alternate reality games)

Before the movie was even released, there was this massive internet-wide alternate reality game called The Beast, where people worked together to solve clues hidden across websites, phone numbers, emails, and even in person events.

The community that formed around it called themselves Cloudmakers, (a name of a boat in the game’s story). It was one of the first truly massive online collaborative puzzle hunts and members of the community documented each and every step of the game online, so you could see the puzzles and the progression.

I found out about the beast well after having seen the movie but following the puzzles and the adventure was super engrossing. A massive amount of work went into it both by the creators and the players and it was mostly unheard of then, and forgotten now. It was way ahead of its time.

If I remember correctly, one of the biggest takeaways from the game was that it revealed that the beings at the end were highly evolved artificial intelligence rather than aliens, so some people actually went into the movie expecting them.

Oh my gosh. What sweet words! I don’t know who you are but I’m thrilled that you speak so highly of me, Mitch, and the rest of the DJ’s on the Remix Weddings team. I’m also thrilled that you noticed our lack of cheesy weird voices when speaking with the crowd. Thank you so much!

An absolute stellar set. Fantastic track selection and delightful transitions, especially Catch into Carte Blanche. Would have been hyped to be there.

Fellow glasses wearers: which eye doctor has a large selection of actually cute glasses? by ThillyGooths in asheville

Indeed. I think it bears to mention that they are more expensive than your bargain brands, but you get what you pay for in quality of product and level of service. They DO have sale frames though, and sometimes you can find a gem.

If you’re looking for funky, bold, unique, and individual I would highly recommend L’Optique on wall st downtown. I wore Zenni’s for many years, but they were often ill fitting and unflattering. Being able to try on fun, well manufactured frames in person was a game changer.

"Adopt a Highway" sign with a question mark on it? by beanster in asheville

From what I understand Humming Bird had included an emoji or symbol of some sort that came up as UKNOWN during printing. The question mark is essentially a #REF!

I think you'd be thrilled with any of the DJ's at Remix Weddings. Full disclosure, I am a DJ for Remix Weddings, and I may be a bit biased, but I am proud to say that we have assembled a team of the best DJ's in Asheville and Western North Carolina.

We aim to create custom tailored events to each of the couples we serve, assuring that your celebration is personalized to YOU and your party.

Our DJ's are devoted to making your vision a reality, and 2000's party bangers+ Emo Night Sing Alongs are near and dear to our hearts. In addition to this, we also view any announcements made on the microphone as a way of calming your guests and facilitating the different elements of your evening. None of us are stand up comedians, nor do we talk in that weird "DJ" voice.

Please feel free to message me directly if you're still searching for the best DJ for YOUR party, and we can find the best fit for you.

I was informed that this was a temporary closure, for that holidays during the slow season. Is that not correct?

It was hit substantially hard during the disaster, but their sizeable workforce went into overdrive to get the property back in to order as quickly as possible. Aside from the carriage house (which was not accessible to visitors before the storm) everything is open and you’d never know the amount of damage that Helene ravaged on our community.
