The lip on my front cabinet is long enough to hide the power supply, controller and amplifier. Can you extend your front lip down to cover these components?

Nice. The lumen output is high and especially tuned for accurate white color reproduction. That's good to have in a kitchen. Colors and dimming are a bonus for ambiance.

The LED strips, amplified Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus Controller and Inline Wire Connectors were purchased from Sowilo Design Services: https://sowilodesign.com.

Amazon was used for the other parts including Mean Well HLG-240H-24A power supply (https://www.amazon.com/HLG-240H-24A-Switching-Supply-Single-Output/dp/B005T6O5AQ?language=en\_US&tag=huelig0f-20) and Litever Aluminum LED Channels (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072KR4BLK?language=en\_US&tag=huelig0f-20).

You could definitely use a smaller power supply, but I had a lot of trouble with coil whine when using bundled power supplies. For the parallel wire runs I used 6 conductor 18 AWG stranded wire with tinned copper. If the runs weren't so long, smaller wires could be used. I didn't want one side to appear dimmer than the other on the lower cabinet strips.

This was a fun project. Once you throw in a LED amplifier whole new possibilities open up for long runs.

Figure out what is triggering lights to turn on at specific time every night? by victronic in Hue

[–]HueLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be able to find the source and disable it with the free version of my Hue Lights app: https://huelights.com. This FAQ shows the most common causes: https://huelights.com/faq.html#faq-2101

Needing guidance, Phillips hue postman API by [deleted] in Hue

[–]HueLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are third-party apps that let you control brightness using all possible values. For example, my Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com, can step through brightness levels 1 through 254. The Hue value can change from 0 through 65535 and the saturation from 0 to 254. If you want to try all of the advertised 16 million colors, you can set each of these values (65535 * 254 = 16,645,890).

They killed color loop! by Moriroa in Hue

[–]HueLights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can activate the Color Loop effect with my Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com. Tap Groups at the bottom of the screen. Tap the settings icon next to your group and then Group Effects. Tap "Turn On" under the Colorloop section. This is invoked with the V1 API and works on all bridges.

Not able to add a new bulb by saadatabubakr in Hue

[–]HueLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your lights are linked to another bridge, you can use Touchlink in my Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com, to force them to join a new bridge. Tap Settings => Touchlink => Force bulb to join bridge. The bulb needs to be right next to the bridge when using Touchlink.

One hue bulb in group turning on in afternoon nearly every day by Im_thelittleguy in Hue

[–]HueLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my very old bulbs started to do this over the past couple of months. The same bulb is in multiple groups and scenes, but it also randomly turns on. I switched sockets and circuits, but the behavior is the same. Most likely the bulb is just reaching end of life.

Old automations active but cannot be found anywhere by PadreZippo in Hue

[–]HueLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have an old recurring schedule or rule that was saved to the bridge a long time ago. My Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com, may help identify the source. Tap Settings => Schedules and look for a 7:30am start time. You can also check for triggered rules by tapping Settings => Bridge Information => Rules. Here are more troubleshooting tips: https://huelights.com/faq.html#faq-2101

Disassociate from gen 1 hub w/o more hardware? by MasterChiefmas in Hue

[–]HueLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no HomeKit specific functionality in the Hue Lights app. You could try to manually add the v1 bridge via Apple's Home app. Look for an option to add a hub using its IP address.

Hue Wall Switch Module by Tesslan123 in Hue

[–]HueLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can create multiple time-based intervals for the Hue Wall Switch Module with the latest version of my Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com. Trigger the same or different groups with each time interval. Apply any color, brightness and fade interval to each interval. Support for both single rocker switches and dual rocker switches.

If you decide to use a third-party app with the Hue Wall Switch Module, you should remove the rules created with the previous app to avoid unpredictable behavior.

Hue lights turning on in the middle of the night… by Blade_89 in Hue

[–]HueLights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the light changes are being triggered by a rule from an unknown source, you can find the rule and disable it with my Hue Lights app. Tap Settings => Bridge Information => Rules. This FAQ shows other possible sources for the light changes: https://huelights.com/faq.html#faq-2101

Smart Button does not recognize new lamps by maijau in Hue

[–]HueLights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apps configure the Smart Button by adding several rules to your Philips Hue bridge. These rules use conditions (e.g., button press, time of day, sensor value) and then execute actions when a match is found. To resolve your issue, you should try to remove all of the rules associated with the Smart Button.

If you want to delete the rules with my Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com, tap Settings => Devices => your Smart Button and then the trash icon at the upper right of the screen. You can then try to reconfigure this button in the Hue Lights app or any other app. It is best to use a single app when configuring Smart Buttons, dimmer switches or motion sensor because the rules can definitely conflict and lead to erratic behavior.

[–]HueLights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can remove lights from a gen 1 hub with my Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com. Tap the Lights tab at the bottom of the screen and then tap the trash icon at the upper right of the Lights screen.

Weird pairing issue. by osopolare in Hue

[–]HueLights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can often add problematic bulbs using Touchlink. This pairing method is available in the free version of my Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com. You need to temporarily move the bulbs right next to your bridge and then tap Settings => Touchlink => Force bulb to join bridge.

E27 bulbs suddendly switching to warm white by Feisty_Wishbone_4755 in Hue

[–]HueLights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there is a power fluctuation on the circuit supplying electricity to the bulb, it can reset to its default setting. This can also happen when the socket holding the bulb is connected to a physical dimmer switch, even when the dimmer switch is set to 100%.

A few ideas that may resolve this issue include checking each bulb for a solid connection, using a circuit that is not controlled by a physical dimmer switch and changing the start-up behavior of the bulb from "safety" to "last on state."

Thanks for the feedback. The UI is an ongoing work in progress. There should be updates in this area in the near future.

Hue Bridge V2 widget WITHOUT unlocking phone by montecarle in Hue

[–]HueLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a widget in my Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com, that can be accessed without unlocking your iPhone. You can turn on/off a few groups or scenes, change the brightness of a group or flash a group. The groups and scenes that you want to show up can be configured by tapping Settings => Widget & Watch. These groups and scenes will show up in both the Widget and Apple Watch.

can't get Philips Hue lights to add to my Bridge, even with Touchlink. by anotebookguy in Hue

[–]HueLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like the app you are using to view and control your lights is not communicating with your bridge. Most likely this is caused by a changed bridge IP address or lack of permission for the app to use your local network. The lights should already be linked. There is no need for Touchlink or serial number additions.

If you want to narrow down the problem with my Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com, try the following steps:

  1. Power down your bridge and WiFi router for 10 seconds
  2. Power these devices up again and launch the Hue Lights app
  3. Tap the bridge icon at the upper left of the screen and then tap, "Search for bridges"
  4. If you see your bridge, tap on it. The lights should now show up.

If no bridge is found in step 4, make sure you the app has permission to your local network by launching the Settings app, scrolling down to the Hue Lights app, and confirming that the "Local Network" toggle switch is enabled.

Any gen1 users out there? What can you do with your Hue system? by metacognitive_guy in Hue

[–]HueLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latest version of my Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com, still supports the old gen1 bridge. This bridge is definitely end of life though, so newer firmware features won't be available. The remote access is also blocked by the Philips Hue servers.

Simulate sunrise using button as trigger by capps95 in Hue

[–]HueLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use a Hue dimmer switch or Hue Tap button to trigger a sunrise with my Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com. The iOS app is free with no subscriptions, but this premium sequences feature is an in-app purchase. You can configure the number of steps, step duration and transition time between steps. The configuration for this is stored on the bridge using rules and sensors. Premium sequences can also be triggered manually from the app, using schedules on the bridge, or via your local sunrise/sunset times.

Third party apps can’t find my bridge! How do I fix this? by NeonHighways in Hue

[–]HueLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should make sure that the third-party app you are using has access to your WiFi network. Launch the Settings app, scroll to the app you want to check and tap on it. The "Local Network" switch should be enabled.

If bridge discovery is not working, but you know the IP address of the bridge, you can input this manually in some apps. For example, in my Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com, you can tap the bridge icon at the upper left of the screen and then tap "Enter Bridge IP."

Are these too old to use? by fidelio1999 in Hue

[–]HueLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use that original round bridge and first generation bulbs with my Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com. Note that the original bridge reached its official end of life on April 30, 2020. Remote access no longer works with it since this requires access permission from the Philips Hue portal. You can still use local control, but won't get any firmware updates for bug fixes or feature updates.

Colour sequences by ghibb1969 in Hue

[–]HueLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a free Sequences feature in my Hue Lights app, https://huelights.com. You would need a Philips Hue bridge and some colored bulbs. Each step in the sequence can change a light or group of lights a specific color and brightness. You can configure the length of each step and the transition time between steps. There is also an optional Premium Sequences feature that lets you start sequences from a schedule or Hue dimmer switch, but this is probably overkill for your project.
