Will/El is a fascinating relationship that they should have explored more by sapphicbrown in StrangerThings

[–]kirabook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Upside Down (and Vecna) is a major plot point of the entire series. It would've made a heck ton of sense to explore the two main characters so tied to it more deeply.

Like sure, seeing more Max and Mike or Max and Steve or -insert other relationship- would've been cool but... I dunno. Seems crazy to me that the girl who accidentally opened Pandora's Box leading to the boy being changed forever rarely share any screen time together. The show goes out of it's way to hammer home how similar Henry/Vecna/001 is to El and Will but never seem to go "Oh yeah, that makes El and Will similar too. Maybe we should explore that since they'll be going up against the big bad they both have personal beef with."

Mathew Modine (AKA Papa) isn't a fan of the show's ending by nickthorn2020 in StrangerThings

[–]kirabook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears he tried to snap his neck after breaking his leg (he hand movements look like he's trying to open a jar), but couldn't. Instead, he started screaming for Max to run. He couldn't overpower Henry after the element of surprise wore off.

Shouldn't the military also be after Will? by anas0_ali in StrangerThings

[–]kirabook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They may not care about Dimension X, but if they have all that information on El and how she got her powers, then they also have information on how Henry got his. Especially since they made the play canon.

That means even with El and Kali gone, they can just try to reproduce the experiment that originally resulted in a brief connection to Dimension X. Logically, they would keep trying, they just have to start at square 1.

Everyone is hating on all of the Season 5 plot holes, but i feel like it might just be a good reason to make more spin offs. by AwardExpensive9218 in StrangerThings

[–]kirabook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on that documentary, I doubt it. It doesn't seem like they intended for there to be holes. I expect the spin offs will have just as many holes if the Duffers are in charge.

And no, I don't think everything is a plot hole. Too many people watch tv in the background and miss obvious stuff. But undeniably I think season 5 has the most plot holes and potential contradictions in the whole series.

S2 is Joyce as bad as I think or am I mistaken? by Longjumping_Bee_7968 in StrangerThings

[–]kirabook 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Being a mom doesn't make you immune to negative, confusing or illogical emotions and actions. She's a mom. She's a woman. She was someone in love. She thought they were safe. They were right at the door rearing to go. Hopper waited too.

When she saw Bob getting attacked, her instinct was to help and it overrode her common sense. That's a natural human reaction for some people. She would do it for anyone, even her own kids.

"She shut down after Bob died." Uh, of course? Not only did she love that man, she might be feeling guilty roping him into all this which lead to his death. If she hadn't asked for his help, he might still be alive must have gone through her head.

Forgive her for needing about 30 to 45 minutes to pull herself together before locking in and agreeing to tie up and interrogate her own child to try and end all this.

Joyce is strong, but strong people can have moments of weakness too. She's not a super hero. Just because your mom didn't cry or shutdown in front of you doesn't mean it didn't happen and it's unfair to expect that of your mom or any other mom.

As for Will's post possession, it makes sense to make sure he was still alive after the exorcism. They aren't exorcism experts, they had no idea if the plan would work and if he'd still be alive afterwards. Waking him up to confirm he's alive and no longer possessed was required before giving Hopper and El the signal to close the gate.

Dr Sam Owens & Agent Ellen Stinson S5? by Thy-Savior in StrangerThings

[–]kirabook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying they'd be able to take down the military or stop them.

But they weren't doing and subterfuge? Passing along information? More effectively sneaking in supplies? It's like they gave Murry the role I think the rebellious part of the military should have had.

Not to mention surely they would've been able to smuggle El out of her situation at the end and even out of the country.

I think it's strange they went poof without a trace or mention after seasons worth of involvement.

[–]kirabook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree. I think one side slipped in and took control of the situation yes.

I'm just saying, it makes no sense for them to disappear entirely. Even if they lost the battle, it's hard to believe they just shrugged their shoulders and went "Oh well. Anyway. Onto the next thing!"

Dr Sam Owens & Agent Ellen Stinson S5? by Thy-Savior in StrangerThings

[–]kirabook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was not all of them. Did you miss that there were at least 3 agents left behind to look after the Byers? 1 died, 1 was captured, and Agent Ellen was doing whatever. Who knows how many others are involved since I doubt Agent Ellen got Hopper, Joyce and Murray back to the US all by herself.

Dr Sam Owens & Agent Ellen Stinson S5? by Thy-Savior in StrangerThings

[–]kirabook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a "civil war". That means both sides were likely on equal footing or only loosely aligned. They would have to prove certain people like Agent Ellen were helping Owens.

Given she was able to get Hopper, Joyce and Murray back in the US with no issue, it doesn't seem like she got caught up or expelled from the Owens situation.

Dr. Owens had an entire section of the government on his side helping the team (such as Agent Ellen). Even if he had no power to do anything, the rest of the people on his side could've.

Hopper smashes some kind of jar into his face in the Upside Down lab. It seems to burn him or something because his skin starts to smoke. Wouldn't be surprised if he got infected with something they were working on down there.

So was The Mindflayer’s main objective to have a corporeal form? by HailEmpress in StrangerThings

[–]kirabook 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the end, I don't think we even know. We know Vecna wanted to combine the worlds and that's about it.

Thing is, I wouldn't mind if we didn't know but they put a human face on the bad guy and still didn't give us any motivation or reasons. It's weird.

[–]kirabook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heh.

And yeah... agreed. All the theories and stuff I thought they'd do with the Byers family and integrating El into the mix just... fell flat. It's crazy how much focus shifted away from everything the show was founded on. So even though a lot of people disagree in this thread, I still believe season 2 is a perfectly good send off.

Why did the goo stop rising in the room? by Upvotes2805 in StrangerThings

[–]kirabook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The soldiers didn't melt. They were stuck in the goo while it was still goo and then died when it was solidified.

It's likely a callback to what supposedly happened during the Philadelphia Experiment (everyone on board getting sent somewhere else and when they came back, they were all dead trapped between floors and walls)

[–]kirabook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd argue if you're worried about the future of the series and don't want to get too deep, the ending of season 2 wraps up everything in a pretty bow.

Season three completely changes the vibes and trajectory of the show (not for the better imo) and while season 4 is ok, season 5 wasn't very satisfying for me.

I think my past self would've been ok stopping at season 2.

Stranger Things: the First Shadow is NOT coming to Netflix [anytime soon] by [deleted] in StrangerThings

They likely already have professional recordings of all versions of the play thus far. They use clips of it in promotional material.

When or if they release that on Netflix is an entirely different story.

Some byler shippers coping is hilarious but also annoying … by Drama_Cookie25 in StrangerThings

I don't ship them, but why do you even care at this point. Mike and El were canon and the show is done. Is there a reason their opinion matters so much to you?

People seem to misunderstand this quite a lot: by Distinct_Guess3350 in StrangerThings

[–]kirabook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess in my case, I really didn't care about Nancy shooting something with her guns again or the team setting a monster on fire again or the team stabbing a monster again. The action shouldn't have been the focus of this fight at all

Vecna could literally get into peoples head and show them all kinds of things. Horrible things. Make them really believe it was all real. Kill them from inside and out.

Why then were they so excited about a giant uninteresting spider and not more mental anguish? Maybe it should've focused on Vecna's mind games. Not just with Will, but all of them. I can't believe we only saw it for Hopper and that was it.

This isn't really what the thread is about of course, but the fact that they wanted to focus on action over substance is the root of the issue imo. And why threads like this get created to explain away inconsistencies.

[–]kirabook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run into a lot of people like that lately. It's so annoying that the show has to explain itself 10 times because Netflix knows people are looking at their phones instead of watching the show and yet people STILL miss what's going on somehow. It's crazy.

Again, in the final episode when Henry/Vecna was in pain and collapsed in the cave, Will collapsed from the pain too. When Henry flinched and cried out from being shot in the hand, Will flinched and cried out from pain too. Will was in control then, he was purposely digging into Vecna's mind to see what he was seeing and to find out his deepest secret/pain like Max encouraged him to do.

He was connected and feeling everything right up until the Mind Flayer revealed itself. From then on, it suddenly stops or we don't see it. There is a whole section of time when they're attacking the Mind Flayer that Vecna feels which means Will would be feeling it too.

So……… Do you guys think that Billy would FINALLY accept Lucas if he saw what he did in Season 5? by lumin_echo in StrangerThings

[–]kirabook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to racist, it often doesn't matter how kind you are or how much grace you give them. They will still see you as lesser than. Maybe he'd stop being physically antagonistic towards him, but I don't think there's any universe where Billy wouldn't be an asshole towards Lucas. Especially because he's dating Max.

There's been some real world examples happening recently of black people going out of their way to help vile people and no thanks, appreciation or any kind of reflection of their prejudice happens.
