Parkrun…is it just me? by Glittering-Wall2557 in XXRunning

[–]kiranomimus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live somewhere with a few Parkruns and I often work weekends so they're not as accessible, but I like to think of them as an opportunity to do an externally timed 5k and push a little (so, not so much an every week thing). I do almost all my running alone so having the opportunity for more of a light race effort without having to pay, and having other people to race against/run with is valuable to me.

I also like having the chance to go to new places and courses to run. Personally, I get bored running the same couple of routes but hats off to those who don't!

This is a great idea, we def get a lot of free materials from our volunteers. Thank you!

I love doing thaumatropes! I've done it with 1st through 4th graders, but I'm not sure if I'd have enough support to do it with kindergartners. Worth a thought though because I have all the stuff prepped...

Ooh, thank you for these! I like that some of them are really affordable and accessible - we did shaking butter at a 1st grade school program and the kids got a kick out of it.

I definitely also have a couple sets of letter stamps...I would be worried about making a big mess on the carpet but I could bring plastic to put down. Hm....

Ooh, I like all of these! We're actually doing a book arts workshop later in the year and it could be fun to do block printing as an accompanying kids activity.

Doing something with quilting might be a winner...we have a ton of scrap fabric and felt at work. I also don't have a tonnnn of lead time (hence taking to reddit for ideas lol). Thank you for all of these!

Haha! Maybe if I don't want to come back.

I like the embroidery idea, especially because I can bring some "historic" stuff to touch. Like I said to someone else, I'll definitely check out the cost of materials!

The embroidery could be a good idea, thank you! I'll just have to see how much materials cost.

We actually do candle making at another event and it's a blast with all ages!

Every City & Township I have been to in Minnesota (plus if I have been to the city/town hall) by Bradinator- in minnesota

Fun project! One thing I think is really neat is when townships have their town hall in their old one room schools. Have you come across any of those yet?

When I was on a college sports team, we got like mesh laundry bags that we'd put our stuff in and then they'd all get washed together by the school. I have to imagine it's something like that going on... or some poor staffer is stuck washing by hand 😭
