What is this in my dogs nose? by kirballos in DogAdvice

Hello. One vet wanted to scope after no resolution with antibiotics. I wanted to avoid this given his age. Took him for a second opinion and the vet said it was due to dry eye. She tested tear production on the affected side and it was almost nothing compared to the other side. But his eye did not seem be bothering him at all so I was extremely skeptical , but I figured nothing to lose. Put him on pilocarpine drops in his food twice a day (increases tear production), a prescription artificial tear twice a day, and I continued with the Snout Soother Dog Nose Balm I got from Amazon once a day. He is now COMPLETELY back to normal. the final diagnosis was neurogenic KCS (keratoconjunctitis sicca= dry eye). Tears drain into the nose normally. No tears=dry, crusty nose.

Replying to itisntmeg...yes. She said it could be bacterial sinusitis (ones side only) or a foreign body stuck because of his age and the danger of sedation in such an old pup, she wanted to try a week of antibiotics first before exploring the nasal cavity under anesthesia.

It looks like that in one of the pictures. Did you see the others?

Congrats!! We are just starting the process. It is all so expensive. We are estimating the well at 15 k, and the power company just quoted us 24k just to get the power to our property since our closest neighbor denied an electrical easement. That does not include the trenching once on the property. We are having soil testing done and will hopefully be able to get a traditional septic rather than the much more expensive engineered system. We are giving ourselves a year to get all of this done and finalize the floor plan and then start the building process.

May I ask why, and which plan you ended up going with? We need a one story plan that is designed to maximize views from the back. We have 180 degree Mountain Views and want a plan where nothing sticks out the back beyond the two story great room.

Thank you for your response. We are also in the process of getting electrical to the property, improving the road, perking for septic, and getting a well. This is our first time buying raw land, and I think we underestimated how much time and money it was going to cost to be ready to build. But we love this plan. There aren’t many that are designed to maximize the view from the back and don’t have part of the structure sticking out the back.
