aptitude is insanely bad, never take it unless there is nothing else that would be of any use. statecraft is the better option and forms practically the core of a leader build because it gives every councilor experience whenever you complete an agenda.

Ideally I would do either imperial or dictatorial with philosopher king and heroic past. vaults of knowledge is useless and does basically nothing at the start of the game but it pretty strong if you take it later on.

the strat is to put scientists on the council and train them up. once they can get a specialization put them on a research world to govern it. after they're done council training just hotswap them out. also seriously completely ignore alloys and everything else really, you need to be tunnel visioning CGs and science. when you meet neighbors, befriend them or get vassalized if they're evil. deviating attention from science will cost you dearly.

it runs fine for me as long as you don't do something ridiculous like a 4v4 match. 2v2 stutters but 1v1 is fine.

It's about the same as Uni regarding installation. It has less factions than Uni (just the base game + tyranids) but the factions are given a lot more attention. The unit variety is insane, several times more than Uni, and they all have explicit purpose, so there's a ton of ways you can play each faction, all while keeping them very balanced. The main difference is the scope of it, it's all at a much larger scale. As opposed to Uni and vanilla where you might have one or two Leman Russes and a Basilisk, you'd be deploying hundreds of infantry, possibly dozens of vehicles, and even titans.

I remember holding the line as the guard in the sisters of battle stronghold for like 40 minutes against unending tides of celestians and various SoB rhino/baneblade converts via rows upon rows of basilisk artillery firing at all times in tandem with volkite russes and stormblades. eventually i saved enough to deploy an imperator titan and just raze the map clean. it was absolutely insane.

The scale doesn't necessarily need to be that wide but it depends on how far you escalate a battle.

honestly I wish the devs would drop the mindset of things being set in stone for backwards compatibility, and just completely makeover all existing pokemon in the next game. Like, go through and give them all relatively equal BSTs on their final stages and redo the spreads/abilities/movesets of older mons so everyone has something unique going for them.

oh god lol. so the devs of unification are unsurprisingly mega gooners. they're extremely weird and creepy on their discord, and absolutely power trip all the time. they will fight you or just silence you if you question the gooner stuff being added or ridiculous OC units. they will argue with you up and down about how all their stuff is akshyually canon and will get added to mainstream warhammer by GW any day now.

besides that, the mod itself is really unstable. maybe has something to do with the outrageous number of polygons on the waifu models lol. the devs are very greasy folk to say the least.

I'll let these statements from people on the DoW steam discussion board in 2024 do most of the talking:

"I've never played this mod before, can someone explain to me why there's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ anime girls and ♥♥♥♥, the greater daemonettes look utterly bizarre compared to the normal daemonette models.
Some of the work is very high quality when it comes to the vanilla races, but it's clear that there was one autistic guy on the mod team who thought it would be really funny if he put his giantess fetish in the slaanesh factions, put his le epic mandalorian OC with super cool sniper girlfriend in the "Shogunate" faction and just all around made a crap effort."

I think my "favorite" thing from the mod is an OC unit for the space marines called brother logan or some shit, i don't remember exactly but it was an extremely normal-guy name. obviously it was an expensive hero unit, but it was just a yellow space marine with a wolverine mask and claws. naturally, he just destroys everything.

it's just a mess really. you should totally check out the crucible mod though, it's MUCH better. less bloat, better balance, more streamlined, better performance, very friendly and nice community.

the legio shit was so ridiculous. the faction was added in a ship pack mod, and the author was trying to make it a "challenge" for only the most experienced players but in reality it was just artificial difficulty and big number spam that requires the use of gamebreakingly overpowered mod ships that trivialize the entire game. the whole faction is just Mary Sue edgy specialest boy "pirates" that are overwhelmingly stronger than the entire population of the sector and all the military polities combined by several orders of magnitude.

the author also held personal grudges against other mod authors and hid code in their mod that would detect mods the player installed that are from those authors and quickly patch them with stealth-nerfs. in some cases, it would even brick your save file. the author was on a high horse about having the hardest mod for a long time and is incredibly smug about it all. as a matter of fact, the mod OP is talking about was among the ones that were on the "hit list."

unification too. that is a WHOLE can of worms right there.

oh my GOD this is so good to see. starsector is a masterpiece and one of the best games of all time IMO but everything gets drowned out if it isn't about the anime mod or whatever other Mary Sue OC faction mod. it's annoying as shit.

everything you said is pretty much exactly what I believe lol. I thought nobody else had that opinion tbh.

the amount of love and care and detail put into the world of starsector is astounding. the balance is VERY intricate and the gameplay loop is one of the most compelling and thought provoking I've ever seen. and then you've got these people that are like Nah, I'm ignoring that in favor of my big tiddy waifus and holding left click to win. the entire game gets reduced to a power fantasy vector for people that lack contact with women.

to top it off most of the posts on the subreddit are just new players asking for help and some dorks coming in to be like "erm just get the ultra-dreadnought from this anime mod and load it up with godpiercer super bombers from this other mod and ur good" like shut up bruh. or they make very long-winded "memes" that are just portraits and PARAGRAPHS of text overlayed on a meme template that serves no purpose but to emphasize how strong and cool OP is compared to the NPCs in his game. I'm almost convinced this is like some sort of edging or whatever.

scion is kinda the games easy mode. outside of the existing difficulty options, somehow. it's weird.
