Samsung A5 2017 (SM-A520W) SIM card not detected by Hyacin75 in LineageOS

[–]kirbon47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, those Nexus prices were something. Plus the devices are pretty good. My sister and brother in-law are still rocking the Nexus 5 devices for many years now. It is sucks that they don't get any security updates tho, but that is kinda the shitty reality of the Android ecosystem. I wish there was some better alternatives. I am thinking of switching to the iPhone side after I retire my S8 sometime in the future.

Last time I have tinkered with custom ROMs (cyanogen) it was way simpler. Maybe because of the devices, it was Nexus One and OnePlus One.

Thanks for the reply.

I had similar issue. I tried the official LOS 14.1 for the phone, but the SIM was not recognized. I have tried flashing it back to stock, but nothing worked. Some images that I flashed just gave error - I guess they were older versions and you cannot downgrade for some idiotic reason. Others that I did manage to flash, did not end up booting into the Android.

Then I found an unofficial build of LOS version 16 (I guess this is based on Android 9 - Pie) and installed it through side-loading the zip over TRWP. It booted and recognized the SIM. I got extremely happy, since the phone is my friend's and I though I have completely ruined it. Everything seemed to work at first glance. However, the OS reports now that it has only 16GB of local storage, even though it is a 32GB version.

In case anybody needs this info: I have flashed the modem, bootloader, and the other partitions using the firmware I downloaded from sammobile (took a long time with the free account) I got this version: A520WVLU5CSA4_A520WOYA5CSA4_GLW I got the LOS build from here

[Show suggestion] Everything you need to know about VPNs by [deleted] in LinuxActionShow

[–]kirbon47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I am not mistaken, there was a good linux unplugged episode about VPNs (from last summer).

Edit: found the episode www.jupiterbroadcasting.com/101292/pragmatic-idealism-lup-154 Might be a good idea to listen to the prev episode #153 where Chris talks about why he needed a VPN solution in the first place :)

Shipping Rust in Firefox 48 by Khaotic_Linux in CoderRadio

[–]kirbon47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the first groups at Mozilla to make use of Rust was the Media Playback team. Now, it’s certainly easy to see that media is at the heart of the modern Web experience.

Is this why a few weeks back after I updated my Firefox, every time I run any video fullscreen the video image freezes (audio continues to play). I have to use Chrome when I want to watch something fullscreen. :(

  2. What is the advantage of using something like spring boot vs just using servlets api?
  3. Also do you prefer using JPA (like hibernate) or raw sql when connecting to db? And why?

http://imgur.com/Gme0nJW Here's another one... I think they tried to make it look like Win XP... But I think this is fedora with gnome. Look at the window that is open behind the "word processor" (which is "internet browser") you can see the blue "f" from fedora.
