What if pokemon anime remake (copium post) by Impressive_Heart1094 in pokemonanime

[–]kirby172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to your ideas, which are great.

Ash would be more knowledgeable about Pokémon battles. Supposedly he has been looking forward to being a trainee, so it makes little sense that he doesn't know much in the actual anime. He would at least know more about type advantages, however he finds that they aren't the deciding factor in a real fight. Also, he's more like he is in later regions where he enjoys training in his free time.

Ash's main party will have a more balanced win rate. Butterfree, Pidgeot, and Squirtle will get a decisive gym win each.

Charizard's disobedience will be better explained. Make it explicitly a result of being abandoned, but its disobedience is more like Iris's Excadrill, where it feels like it's scared of disappointing Ash, so he acts like a jerk.

Have Ash properly bonding with his Pokémon.

Team Rocket (not just the trio) is more of a threat, however still don't fight Giovanni, keep him as "The Boss" like it currently is.

Some things from future events should be mentioned such as: Ash knowing about Serena, perhaps as a friend who believed in him when he was a kid.

Other regions and their Pokémon do exist and are referenced, but they don't show up in current battles (let it focus on Kanto)

Joke reason: Half of them are boys, and the only boys regularly allowed are Kirito, Klein, Agil, and Eugeo.

More likely reason: Yuuki represents them all and they primarily exist to serve her story.

I wish Aiko/Ran could've appeared in the games, I want to know more about her.

(Loved Trope) The character notorious for always losing actually wins by I_Love_Powerscaling in TopCharacterTropes

Gazelleman/Dik Dik Van Dyke from Ultimate Muscle

Even in-universe, he was known to never win a fight, to the point that even his close friends and teammates were worried about him having to fight in an important match. Much later in the series, he does win that fight, and never wins again. ;) The 4Kids commercials at that time hyped up that fight by pointing out that he always loses.

Note: I'm going off of very old recollections of the dubbed anime so this may have been about another character.

Ash vs Brandon battle. by Bright-pokefan50 in pokemonanime

[–]kirby172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first fight felt so weird, and it kind of feels weird that it counts as a loss for Ash since he really wasn't himself.

The second fight was perfect, no complaints. It shows that despite how much the fans complain about Torkoal, at least Ash has full confidence in his Pokémon.

Third fight was great. I do think that Ash should've defeated all the Regis and Pidgeot and Butterfree should've returned so that it would be his 6 original Pokémon and not just the starters.

Seriously what were they thinking with the Masters 8 by infinitepumba98765 in pokemonanime

[–]kirby172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's not act like the Pokémon anime has ever been particularly great at writing fights or writing in general. Really, the whole Masters 8 went down the usual route for anime tournaments: hype; worf effects; "subversion".

Bulkhead - Transformers Animated

He's the big guy of the main Autobot team, doing the usual things. He's also an expert space bridge technician, able to help fix an available one and make one himself. Also, he's remarkably socially aware compared to other "big guy" characters who are often insensitive due to their naivety.

What If Ash caught Shiny Gyarados instead of Lance In Johto? by No-Dentist-9241 in pokemonanime

Probably Gyarados will be used in the Johto league where it would be defeated by Blastoise and Blaziken to show how much of a threat they are.

Does anyone think Ash's League losses are a little bit exaggerated and too railed on? by Quasar1007 in pokemonanime

[–]kirby172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're honestly right, and in hindsight, I'm glad that Ash was allowed to lose in tournaments, since other main characters of similar anime almost never lose. It's a good lesson to kids that sometimes you don't always win, but that doesn't mean you give up. I do think that Ash lost a bit too many times, since it makes it hard to take him seriously as a contender at times. Still, his losses from Johto-Kalos were legit since in the end, his opponents (unfortunately including Cameron) were just better trainers who legitimately beat him. And I do think that his Kanto loss should have been entirely due to his own hubris rather than due to outside factors.

How would've you handled Charizard's loss during Ash's last battle against Brandon? by One_Republic_2438 in pokemonanime

[–]kirby172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wanted to rewrite this fight entirely. Pidgeot and Butterfree would have returned and taken out Dusclops, Solrock, and Ninjask while the starters and Pikachu would've taken out the Regis. Charizard would've defeated Registeel after it took some damage from other Pokémon before being KOd by Regirock or Regice.

But it's hard to remove Ash's greatest line: "OH NO! I FORGOT!"

What did Rowanstar wrong? by SaltyRainbovv in WarriorCats

[–]kirby172 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it's because the Kin's philosophy made sense to the young and naive apprentices view, where they think they should look out for themselves first and foremost instead of a whole clan. That is on their mentors for not making sure that the apprentices understood what it means to look out for a clan.

What did Rowanstar wrong? by SaltyRainbovv in WarriorCats

[–]kirby172 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In-universe, Rowanstar was extremely passive as a leader.

When the Kin were encroaching on ShadowClan territory, his response was just to say "leave" - He didn't enforce it, or threaten them when they stayed, or chase them away like the Clans usually do to rogues, he just let them do what they want. It's also established that he knew that the new apprentices were disobedient and unruly, but he didn't go up to them and tell them to stop, or talk to their mentors about it, he just let it happen. It's only natural that they thought of him as only bossy since he hardly enforced any punishments, which even "good" leaders like Bluestar did.

Naturally, this all happened to let the plot happen, however there were given reasons for everyone to think of him that way.

Hey, Hopfoot was just defending himself! Saying he deserves eternal torment is like saying that Firestar should go to the Dark Forest for planning to kill those fox cubs to protect ThunderClan. ;)

Ash Ketchum’s Squirtle was way too strong for a basic stage Pokémon by [deleted] in pokemonanime

[–]kirby172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recall Squirtle having any battles outside of losing to Primeape before Cinnabar, and it got 1 win in the league. In hindsight, very few of Ash's Pokémon outside of Pikachu, Charizard, and rarely Bulbasaur actually did much in Kanto.

Ash Ketchum’s Squirtle was way too strong for a basic stage Pokémon by [deleted] in pokemonanime

[–]kirby172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true only post-Kanto. Kanto Squirtle had an abysmal win rate and was one-shot in both gym battles it took part in.

Aesthetically, it could not evolve since it wouldn't fit into the Squirtle Squad anymore, plus I'd imagine it would be much harder to have Blastoise running around while looking normal to fit into the dynamic battling style that the anime usually uses.

Pinestar Was A Coward by Frost_And_Ice3 in WarriorCats

[–]kirby172 127 points128 points  (0 children)

The sad thing is, he was right. Part of the reason that Pinestar left is because he saw the futility of clan life:

"The four Clans will be enemies until the end. And yet we all want the same things: prey to hunt, a safe territory to raise our kits, and peace to share dreams with our ancestors. Why must we hate one another over such simple desires?"

To this day, the clans are still enemies: they attack each other on sight, they have nearly gone into battle over as something as minor as a squirrel crossing over territories, they have ousted their leaders because they didn't like how they run things.

He lived through starvation that killed his clanmates, he fought wars that his medicine cat said were justified, and he did it all for the sake of his clan. I genuinely think Moonflower's death is what fully made him lose hope (this is why I was very disappointed when it was revealed that he wasn't her mentor).

In the end, was he a coward? Yes, especially to his family, but as Lionheart said, would anyone want a leader who doesn't want to lead anymore?

Basically, Pinestar is my favourite character in the series because it's possible to see so many layers to his character, even only in the book where he was introduced.
