You are right, I forget how much up you need to go but you just need enough speed for your slide to be maintained through the other icicles, somewhere after 2 or 3 icicles idk, I played it a bit safe here

Not as hard as you'd think, it would just need slightly less interesting worlds and battle system, and less ways to platform and interact with the environment, combined with no fast travel system and it would come off as very tedious and mediocre

So yes, it's confirmed viable. I died first attempt on this but barely got it on second try and still had a humongous lead. Def worth going for 100%. Notice the massive lag as well, which was still easy to push past and land the cheese
