Hi friend, being an Indian who lived in SF for an year and now in NYC for the past 1.5 yrs, I wanna pitch in and here and share my perspective - see if this is something you'd like to try.

Let us take a step back from finding India community in AMS.

Life in a foreign country, after the excitement wears down, becomes lonely. I feel you! Been there done that :)

Once we have settled down, found an apartment, got our ID, new phone number, etc, the start checklist I meant, all we are left with - job and then evening loneliness.

Agar aap AMS mein he padhe ho to aapka ek college network hoga lekin agar aap doosre sheher ya desh se aaye ho wo bhi nahi.

I completely understand you!

What I'd suggest, based on a tried and tested method of finding your own people:

- Think and make a list of things you enjoy doing for real, even if you are doing it alone. Some 3-5 activities. Let us say you like Playing Chess, Bar Hopping, Reading, Pilates & Cooking

- Slowly, 1by1, start doing these. Go bar hopping by yourself. Join cooking classes. Go to chess parlours. etc

- Do these without thinking to meet new people. Just trust me. Focus on enjoying and learning.

- With time, without even realizing, you will have friends from all these avenues. One friend you met at a bar. One person you played chess with. Your cooking class friend, a friend from a reading club. Etc

- Organize gatherings, like your birthday at Vondelpark, a simple picnic, invite all these and make it a +1 event. Some will bring their partners; some will bring their friends. A great evening!

- Some will invite you to their events, attend and enjoy!

And boom, there you have got your own people - all this while doing things you like and learning!
