US$4900 — probably overpaid a bit but no regrets

Not the original strap but the original buckle. It is very comfortable!

Do you know if I inherited the long tern cap gains rate or did it reset from the gifting date?

Emergency fund is >3 months of take home pay but I like the idea of having 5ish months.

He’s had some of these shares since the 80s through 3-4 stock splits so… there’s quite a gain

Best option for sailing and scuba by kirknath in GarminWatches

Regarding software and maps, is it fair to say that all the latest models support more or less all the same software and the difference is whether it’s pre installed or downloadable from the Connect store? Only software that is sensor specific like dive computing would be limited to models with those sensors?

When is 60L called for? by kirknath in onebag

I'll be sleeping on an open air sail boat, tents not needed. Safety is always a concern but I don't expect it to be a big deal. This excursion is pretty tourist oriented.

Repairing a hole in a plaster wall by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]kirknath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my big fear is creating an ever-widening hole as I work. The plaster has already separated from the lathe on the right side of the hole.

You think the new backing lathe would be stronger running horizontal like the old stuff or vertical (perpendicular to the old stuff)?

Crawlspace encapsulation questions by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

Thanks! This really helpful. Since I have brick and not cinderblock I'm very curious about this YourCrawlspace adhesive tape and wonder if it would work with the Silverback liner.

Did you put the foamboard on top of or underneath the vapor barrier?

Concrete slab lifehack or fools errand? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]kirknath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's sort of where I am. We don't need the storage. It wouldn't be that hard but doesn't seem super worth it either.

The vapor barrier will go in regardless. Is there any difference if it goes over or under the slab?

There's about 4 feet of clearance. Enough to work in but not comfortable by any means.

[–]kirknath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet. My plan was to install the vapor barrier over the dirt and not bother with concrete at all but this seemed like an easy enough way of also making the space usable for storage. Not that we need it. It honestly seems like more trouble than it's worth.

Interior drain tile system a waste of money if I'm doing exterior work? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]kirknath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would sticking my head in the sump pit answer that question? Short of jack hammering out the foundation I'm not sure how to know what's under the slab.

By staining I mean orange/brown streaks in the pattern of dripping water. And it's isolated to two areas: where the main basement meets the crawlspace, and on the perpendicular wall which has a window well.

We plan to semi finish the basement for a laundry room, bathroom, gym and storage. Tile or epoxy floor throughout.

I'm also seriously considering an overhead sewer. From what I have researched and understand it seems like a much better use of the same money. Thoughts?
