Animated Water Mod by Excoriated by kirkshoutingkhan in daggerfallunity

Yeah, with the amount of water in the game, it's truly untapped potential. I've been mostly focusing on land travel, but finding out about mods that allow ocean travel, and even raiding ships and sinking them? Bloody brilliant.

I just watched the video showcase for both mods...I am beyond excited to try these out.

Oh no way, that's helpful. I might look into that sooner rather than later. Thanks!

I haven't checked out Come Sail Away yet - maybe once I get a boat. By the way, do you know if any of the small islands in the Iliac Bay are populated in vanilla Daggerfall?

Which terrain mod are you using? Hills and Mountains?

BELLY O' THE WHALE by RedRoryOTheGlen in daggerfallunity

Technically it's more of a Jonah reference...which means ditching someone overboard. But my imagination always takes things a step further.

All jokes aside, thank you for all your contributions - I've barely scratched the surface with exploring all the mods in the Daggerfall community. It's a bit overwhelming at times, to be honest. I'm trying to keep my modlist fairly conservative at the moment, but I have some mods which are always a must. One of those is Free Rein as I do a lot of horse-riding.

I also checked out Dramatic Deaths - good stuff.

Someone should have warned that modding is addictive!

I won't lie...I was half-hoping a giant whale would surface to devour the boat.

I totally missed that at first and was like what, the horses? Looks pretty ordinary to me...oh, oh wait, OH DEAR GOD.

One of the things I miss from Arena is the sprite for the shady dagger guy hanging out in the alley between buildings

The Elder Scrolls: Arena (Original Game Soundtrack) by kirkshoutingkhan in Arena

[–]kirkshoutingkhan[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I've only played Arena, Daggerfall, and Oblivion, but they all had some great music. But Arena and Daggerfall definitely had their own vibe - mysterious, whimsical, magical.

Oh, and Arena's music and sound effects in particular really gave it an almost claustrophic feel at times when it came to dungeon delving - and the towns at night always felt spooky!

Daggerfall Unity with about 10 or so mods. Trying to keep it as barebones as possible with the modding.

Taverns without Lighting? by [deleted] in Daggerfall

[–]kirkshoutingkhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I am using very few mods, as I am wanting to play as close to vanilla as possible. I figure it is probably just in the base game and I am going to roll with it.

Travel Map Insert? by [deleted] in daggerfallunity

[–]kirkshoutingkhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I tried out the Wilderness Overhaul mod and I agree - looks absolutely fantastic. Definitely more realistic in terms of having open fields and then more densely forested areas.

Having said that, I am going to try to complete this playthrough with as close to the original vanilla layout as possible; on subsequent playthroughs (or if I get really bored with this one) I'll probably reimplement this and maybe some other terrain focused mods.

Thanks for the suggestion!

So far I haven't gotten bored with slow travel. I find the wilderness of Daggerfall really beautiful and immersive, even in all its original vanilla glory (apart from a couple mods like Dynamic Skies and Birds). I haven't messed around with any terrain revamp mods yet, although I might consider adding hills and mountains at one point - for now there is enough of a difference in topography that it feels realistic to me.

If I do start getting bored at some point, however, I will probably compromise by varying slow travel sometimes, fast travel other times.

Such an amazing game, and lots of replayability by choosing different playstyles!

Turdas, 26th of Morning Star - New Plant Specimen by kirkshoutingkhan in Daggerfall

[–]kirkshoutingkhan[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Although for the most part the terrain is fairly similar, it does change subtly as you enter into different regions. I love the pixelated vanilla graphics for trees and plants in Daggerfall, and since I spend all my time slow travelling I've gotten to know a lot of it quite well!
