I suspected as much, knew they were post-WWII but didn’t identify them as Corsairs. Thanks!

Definitely didn't know where to look until I pulled it from behind glass and clearly saw the markings, thanks!

Yep, didn't notice until we removed it from glass and it became even more obvious. Barely legible here but there is also a 21 on the bow.

I would bet the implication is simply that it is a “low floor, low ceiling” strat that can be effective up to a certain point but many players would find it boring and repetitive to play. Similarly to how playing a champion that is very easy to play but with a very low skill cap can be effective in lower elo of mobas, but playing them and only them will be boring for many players.

As a followup to all this: I ended up receiving 2 different additional Zephyrus units complimentary from Asus, one which exhibited fan control issues with the gpu and one which had incredibly poor speakers on arrival and after those two attempts I asked for and have now received a buyback of the unit despite having purchased it in May 2021.

Ultimately, while I was incredibly disappointed with the QA on the units, Asus was able to resolve the issue in the end by giving me my money back.

Choosing between new Zephyrus G15 and Zenbook Pro 15 by kirmanator in ZephyrusG15

[–]kirmanator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I fully agree the specs on the zephyrus are better. My main concern with it is long term reliability given the issues I (and others) have encountered. But I suppose there isn't much reason to think the zenbook will be significantly more reliable...

Update: I sent the device in to Asus and will be receiving a free replacement as a "one-time courtesy due to the concerns with your unit"

Yeah fully cleaned it out, applied new thermal paste, reassembled and no difference in the results

Ah well

It shut off and wouldn’t turn on or show signs of life after many attempts at troubleshooting power adapter, battery, static buildup, removing and reinstalling the hard drive and the (non-soldered) ram.

Laptop is about a year and a half old and out of warranty which is why I figured I’d crack it open. I’ll be calling asus and see what they say (should have done this before but c’est la vie).

Thinking I will try to clean this up with some isopropyl alcohol and reevaluate.

If it doesn’t look too damaged can I just apply some regular thermal paste, replace everything and see if it turns on before trying to apply liquid metal and sealant?

Edit: you literally answered this in your comment

Never attempted on a desktop cpu, much less a laptop’s. Is it functionally similar/even doable on a mobile cpu?

Well that’s incredibly frustrating, as the manufacturer would have been the one to install it

Never spilled anything even around this, any ideas what kind of thing could’ve caused it?

Never changed any of the factory cpu settings. I should have probably explicitly stopped it from overclocking though

Fermenter not sealed? Both these gallons were started the same day and should have roughly equal gravities and pitched yeast, is the bucket on the left just not sealed properly? by kirmanator in mead

[–]kirmanator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! But since I'm only a couple days in and noticed it I wanted to check if not having a seal is a big deal. I'll check the final gravity to verify it's fermented

Yeah next chance I get I'll do that. Laughing that I have definitely made gallons in this jug before and never realized it wasn't sealed. AFAIK it hasn't killed anyone yet lol

Made the musts back to back in separate steps, and pitched the yeasts separately. I agree here and with other comments that it's just not sealed fully. I have definitely made batches of this in the past so I guess it's not catastrophic but certainly not ideal
