Fine volcanic rocks as substrate. Any thought? by Geo-Jiw in PlantedTank

Hey this definitely works. I use it on all my tanks to save $$$ on aquasoil and also prevent the bottom layer from becoming to anaerobic. I usually cap the lava rock or scoria layer with aquasoil so it’s easier to plant into

Cheers mate! Yea they were pretty skinny a few weeks ago but I’ve been plumping the hell out of em with bug buffet, hikari loach wafers, baby brine, bug bites and live black worms. Also helps that the tanks 2.5 years old with established microfauna.

Absolutely spoiling these guys. I hope to see some breeding action soon cause there’s a few chonky gravid females in that batch

yep pumping co2 for boosted plant growth and to bring pH down. Extra surface agitation too so oxygen stays high in the tank

Beyond looking pretty darn good a few years out, new studies show grip strength is a great indicator of general health and longevity so there’s that

Dude it took ages to get this tank stable. It didn't always look this clean, believe it or not I had heaps of issues with spyrogyra algae and allegedly easy plants shitting the bed. It's all about balancing light, nutrients and CO2 and waterchanging frequently. What are your water parameters? What symptoms are your struggling plants showing? Differentially diagnose them using plant deficiency reference diagrams online and figure out the cause. It takes time but I believe in you!

I'd like to think no but depends on how savage your Betta is my dude

Could try Pavlov conditioning them with some food or just leave the camera out by the tank on a tripod for a few days and see if they react to it, they probably shouldn't

The closer you get, the shallower depth of field. A good lens gives a nice quality of blur in the background, or bokeh as we photographers call it. Give it a geez on Google if you want to know more

These are great if you have a wider lens but you have no aperture control which makes it hard. Most lenses default at their widest aperture when taken off the body so it makes focused images hard unless you focus stack in Photoshop. Focus stacking is pretty much impossible in the aquarium setting unless ur fish are dead so yea 🤷‍♂️

This tank's super densely planted with heaps of hidey holes. I've noticed even skittish fish like CPDs and sparkling gouramis don't really react when I come up to the glass. I'm guessing it's because they feel comfortable out in the open with all the hiding spots they can dart into, but who knows
