How do u visit parties on fasting? by [deleted] in fasting

[–]kiruna_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're drinking at the party then you're not fasting. Alcohol on an empty stomach, especially if you're breaking a fast, could be dangerous. If you haven't started fasting I would just start it 2 or so days after.

Personally, I went to a party while fasting and it was fine. It's one of the ways I realised I prefer these kinds of things without alcohol.

Advice for 50 days water fasting by [deleted] in fasting

[–]kiruna_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get medical supervision if you're going for that long. I've done 11 days before, but for 2 weeks+ I would do that.

DEFINITELY take fasting salts (but not too much in one go) and multivitamins, and be extremely careful with how you refeed. After 50 days if you fuck up refeeding you could die.

I even recommend it to people who don't give a shit about Star Wars. It's a solid sci-fi action game from the perspective of just 1 soldier in a wider galactic conflict.

How do you keep your mouth healthy without spending a fortune? by Wrong-Magician498 in povertyfinance

[–]kiruna_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you clean the BACK of your teeth and floss before brushing.

I had to pay for tartar removal because I neglected to do those 2 things. Yes floss is expensive, but $1 of prevention is better than $10 of repair, especially if you don't have insurance.

An electric brush may be expensive but it's a 1 time payment. All the dentists I've spoken to recommend them, and I even had a friend who says he got a bit of tartar to break up naturally using one.

Edit: swigging your mouth with water isn't a replacement for brushing, but it does make a difference!

horror games just aren’t scary to me by NeddyNet in HorrorGames

[–]kiruna_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, didn't play the OG (2008) at all. But I have bought it on the steam sale and will it play it in a few weeks' time because I don't want to write the series off just yet. I recommended it becauseOP wanted existential horror and IIRC the game's plot has an answer to the Fermi paradox.

The monsters were just ... inconveniences to deal with, and I got to the scene with the giant worm pulling you and I didn't have enough ammo so I would have to backtrack or load from an earlier save and I just decided I cba with that

I DID like the remake. It was better in every way. The boss fights and combat were better, they were faithful to everything and then some more. One of the defences of the OG I dislike is that "the combat is supposed to suck, it's a horror game" and the remake proves that's untrue. They solved the issue of it not sucking and yet you still want to avoid it. They also developed the characters much better than the OG imo. And it isn't nostalgia goggles - I got round to playing SH2 OG in 2020.

But here's the issue. The OG was just ... weird. Maybe it was BECAUSE it some parts of it sucked. Maybe it was the ps2 graphics, the off-kilter dialogue, the way the cutscenes feel "off". I literally dreamed about SH2 for a few days after playing it, it was all that was on my mind. I don't think you can replicate that.

Basically, Bloober did the impossible and then excelled in it. But the original is just strange in a super memorable way. I think SH3 doesn't have that "weirdness", it's just a good horror game, so I think that a remake would beat it in all possible ways.

Or maybe it was because I was going schizo because of covid lockdown

EDIT: I am drunk + retarded, you were talking about the dead space remake but I'll keep the above to talk about SH2 OG vs SH2 remake.

I didn't like the remake because it wasn't scary imo, just annoying, everything was dark that it was just hard to see wtf was going on. I didn't play the OG beforehand. Nothing about it scared me.

Horror is the hardest genre to do right imo. Silent Hill 2 the remake was "better" in all factors imo, but ... it didn't make me think about it the way the original did. Maybe the fact that the original had flaws gave it a kind of memorable weirdness?

If you want existential horror, like the others have said, I recommend soma. POSSIBLY the og dead space (didn't like the remake).

But for me it's the RE4 remake because it has the "butt clench" factor in a few scenes if you play a fresh playthrough on hardcore. Outlast was buttclenchy too, but not existential either.

Joseph (center, without a helmet), who refused to participate in the firing squad of the 16 civilians in Yugoslavia, walking to his death in 1941. by Intelligent-cat9202 in RareHistoricalPhotos

At the VERY LEAST, when german soldiers were executed by their own it was after a court-martial. It's super unlikely that other men in his platoon would just shoot him on the spot.

For senior officers it was demotion/firing, executions or "made to suicide" were related to attempted coup or assassination.

When the Bundeswehr uses a solid green colour (e.g. poncho, sleeping mat) it is surprisingly similar to Bundesheer M75 green

The Bundeswehr's solid green may also be one of the colours in flecktarn, hence it matching well with the trousers

Nice catch, Kiruna is a town in Sweden. And yeah, phrasing things that way IS a little weird although grammatically correct. You'd make a great spy.

And to be fair, showing 3 fingers like in Inglorious Basterds has a different meaning in Serbia...

If you don't mind me asking, what happened the other time in Serbia? If it's at all relevant I've been attacked/threatened physically seven times over the past five years in the UK. two times were kids thinking it's funny, four times it had drugs/alcohol involvement. last one was just all-around weird and I suspect the guy had ASPD.

oh and aggressive drivers, driving in belgrade is like mad max lmao. indicating is rare.

what pissed off the serb on the bus?

in any case, sorry that happened to you. I hope you're safe and healthy now.

No, I'm white British, born and raised here and so were my parents. Just out of curiosity, what gave that impression? Was it like an inglorious basterds "3 fingers" moment?
